Usually that would be an indication that the other ships are not so similar after all. Most ship designers set their retail prices based on the ship's basic stats: speed, manoeuverability, weaponry, cargo space, energy and energy recharge. Some ships do not have the basic stats to justify their high price. The most famous example would be the ordinary Fer-de-Lance from the original set. For its technical specifications it is overpriced. But then you have to take into account the luxurious interior design as well, and the aura of exclusivity connected to being a FdL owner.
