Funny goings on in 1.75

Post by Yodeebe »

Greetings commanders. 8)

There's some strange things going on since I 'upgraded' to 1.75.
I went through all my oxp's & think I got them all up to date.
for starters, every time I land at a station, I get: "For capturing mission_pirateDisplayName you are awarded 500 Cr"
which is great, but as with any bank errors, I'm worried they're going to get back to me with some huge bill for the accidental error!

Also, there's something that's causing my frame rate to drop down to 10FPS every now & again. not sure what though.
here's my oxp list:

This is something I'm getting too. I have looked at it a little bit, but RL hasn't allowed much playing or testing.
In addition I'm getting frame freezes of about 1/10 of a second. Not sure when it started, but when I installed 1.75 the first time everything ran very smoothly. I do suspect my computer, as it's in dire need of a reinstall, but if others are seeing the same issues I might as well report it. Oh, It's the same in both 1.75.1 and trunk build 4506.

When the framerate drops, how long does it remain at 10fps for? Is it something that gets rectified quickly or remains like this for a long time? Also, does it happen without OXPs?

At work, so testing without OXP's must wait till this evening. For me it lasts for less then a second, but it becomes very noticeable in a fire-fight. I would guesstimate about 0.2 - 0.5 seconds.

At intervals of 5s to 1min. It has crossed my mind that this is related to log writes or disk reads or some other regular thing happening in Oolite.
It is also related to how much is happening in the game, but that seems to affect how long it lasts, more than how often it happens.
But as things are happening around the world, RL is kind of busy, so I haven't had time to do any testing. Will try tonight.

I tend to think the same, especially since you say that 1.75 was OK, while you notice the symptoms with 1.75.1, which has deliberately inflated logging. You have a lot of OXPs, which warrants a lot of logging. What you can try to do when you test next time, is to temporarily disable the inflated logging by setting the $betaCrashIssue line in logcontrol.plist to no and see if that improves things.

This is clearly from an OXP, although I don't know which.

Looks like a mission variable was incorrectly set, or didn't get cleared.

This is a good reminder for OXPers to remove unnecessary logging.

@Yodeebe: Updates -> BGS-A1.3.3, buoyRepair1.02.8, RandomHits1.4.10, Vector1.5 (you'll need Cabal_Common_Library and Snoopers as well). :wink:

@ Yodeebe

It won't be causing your problem, but I noticed you have both TG2 Armageddon and ToughGuys installed. ToughGuys was the early version and is the equivalent of TG2 Anarchy, so I suggest you remove ToughGuys, and keep Armageddon (or one of its companions).
Cheers,
Smivs.

I assume it is from the test oxp: "OresratiChalange v0.0.oxp". That one uses the mission variable mission_pirateDisplayName. The newest version of that oxp is v0.1.1. It could be that it is already fixed there.

EDIT:
I don't think it is fixed. THe lines responsible are:

Code: Select all

this.shipWillDockWithStation = function (station)
{
    if (missionVariables.oresratichalange_pirateEscPod == "RESCUED")
	{
		player.addMessageToArrivalReport(expandDescription("For capturing [mission_pirateDisplayName] you are awarded 500 Cr."))
		player.credits += 500
	}
}
But, missionVariables.oresratichalange_pirateEscPod is never reset after message generation, so once you get the message, it will be there every docking. :twisted:

Okti, you could make it a 1.75+ oxp. Than can you use character.plist for your pirates and add a JS script to the pilot/character. Look for an example in the "galNavyOfficer.js" script in GalNavy.oxp. That way you don't even need mission variables to keep track of the special pilot. And additionally does this method allow to carry more than one of these special pilots.

Ok, tested with the logging off, and it's a lot better. Not quite like before, but more than playable and a decent frame-rate with all settings at max and all my OXP's in there. (This is trunk 4508 by the way). Log is 25kb rather than 1MB.

Managed to kill that Ionics Funnelweb first try with a more responsive system. Didn't get a mission screen on returning though, suspect there is a conflict with Illegal Goods tweak. The Funnelweb dropped a cargo canister with arms that I scooped, and Illegal Goods Tweak triggered. I ignored it getting a 1cr bounty, but no mission screen from Ionics stating that I had completed the mission. Got the 15 grand though. (Will post this in the Ionics thread as well)

for me it's every half hour or so, and normally for a few minutes, like it might be a ship causing it, until it goes out of range, or destroyed.

I'll try it all out when RL allows & report back, but I reckon that'll sort out the issues.
