Oh aye, no one's gonna argue the SFX side of things, that opening shot is iconic. but that's the thing : everything you remember and celebrate about star wars is ILM's work. nobody ever goes "wow, i remember the script and scintillating dialogue!". all the magic of that film shatters as soon as someone opens their mouth. did the kessel run in under 12 parsecs. that's like saying you did the london marathon in under 20 miles. a howling blunder that fans have desperately tried to explain away ever since.

It can be improved if you remember that inside Darth Vader's suit is David Prowse, ex-Green Cross Code man and owner of a good West Country accent:

"Yew arr a tray'ur an a rebel spoy."

"Oi foind yur lack of faith disturrbin, Commaander."

"The Force is strang in this'un!"

and so on. :D

There was some good post-production handwavium used to explain the 12 Parsec run thing - the "Kessel Run" was a dangerous trade route, that passed by a dense collection of black holes and pulsars, so most traders skirted the long way round, by doing the run in "less than 12 Parsecs" - Han was basically saying he's prepared to fly through very dangerous space and take the shortest route.

On set he was known as Darth Farmer.

uh yeah....advanced astronavigation computers that can do hyperspace jumps but doesn't happen to record the presence of moons. seems a bit dangerous to me. you'd think they woulda noticed it wasn't a moon a lot earlier. perhaps the very flat surface woulda been a giveaway.

Griff… have you any plans for a re-working of the Viper Interceptor, to match its actual (.dat) dimensions?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

i haven't actually i'm afraid, although i do need to go back to the Vipers and fix the z fighting that happens on the engines (because i didn't bother to cut out an engine sized hole the polygon behind them) so i could give the interceptor a reworking whilst i'm there, i actually hadn't noticed it was a different shape to the standard viper when i was working on the oxp other than that it had an extra engine, i better borrow Obi Wans specs i think!
At the moment i'm going to try and redo the sidewinder in this shipset, it's got a horrible texture on it, the panels just seem wrong and they get repainted really yuk by the shader

It seems the links to these NormalMap ships are not working. I get a File not Found error. Is there another (alternative) link somewhere?

Hi Snaphaan and welcome... the link to the all-in-one oxp is down.
Download all the individual oxps from here, or here instead... those definitely work.

Dizzy's site seems to have gone offline, hope he's OK, he hasn't posted for a couple of months now.
edit: As Dizzy's site seems to be Offline at the moment, you can grab the latest dizzy-all-in-1 oxp from here as a 4 part 'spanning zip archive'
http://www.box.net/shared/z925ssjfum it's missing a few of the latest ships though, the hermit & alloys ones i think

Over three months, in fact... like you, I'm a bit concerned about him.
