Most probably related to this thread - I believe sound issues on the Mac are a well known 'feature'.

That is an other bug. The bug commander_matt is referring to is different but even more annoying. It seems specific for the mac, but not for all systems.

At the start of soundplay the volume goes to maximum in a short burst leading to the mac hardware reducing the overall volume. After about 10 seconds the volume comes back to its original setting. (Better don't play Oolite with earphones here)

The problem was well known before release but we could not track it down so any help is appreciated. I don't think there is a specific oxp responsible for it. It happens when I play with half of my oxp set and also when playing with the other half of the set.

With only a few oxps installed I did not have the problems, but maybe I did not play long enough. I have the feeling that is happens less in the release version than in the previous trunk versions, but still it happens.

(For me with OSX 10.5.8)

The sound is the very fabric of reality cracking because your speakers are too loud. You should turn them down.

Download the computer games - they're very good - like interactive episodes!

Yeah, I noticed that. Played Oolite again after a while and used in-ear phones cause I wasn't at home. OUCH.
OSX 10.6, Oolite 1.74.2 if anyone cares.

The crackling is awful and erratic.

I have put it down to OXPs or one OXP, but not sure which!

Oolite was fine until I started downloading some OPXs

Oolite froze for seconds before witchspace until I removed a CobraMK3 OXP and after that it was fine.

I still think its fab though!

That seems fixable. Could you be a little more specific, though? There is no CobraMK3.oxp, as far as I'm aware. So I guess the actual name will be a little different from that.

I experienced it just the other day, for the first time, after updating the Core Duo 2GHz to 10.6.3 (previously I was running the latest version of 10.5.x). Then I did a Software Update and downloaded all the 10.6.4 stuff (including all the latest security updates) and I haven't heard it since.

Maybe I'm just lucky so far. Maybe it was something to do with 10.6.3. Maybe it's the sound of 64-bit awesomeness.

EDIT - just looked at the other thread, and I have the (awesome) OXP that adds PAGroove music / new splashscreens / better laser sounds to the game. The throb of the engines, HALSIS, and the sound of witchspace may contribute to this.

Hi commander McLane

Yeah, it was dwcobra3.oxp

it could be coincidence of course and a combination of this and another oxp or two...who knows? :)

Cheers!
