:P, we seem to have a few bugs in 1.74 - as per tradition - but overall it's a lot less buggy than 1.73, I'd venture to say...

Becka, jump right in! The water new version's lovely! ;)

Hi Becka THS, now since I am a new recruit (well old really since I had Elite on the C64!) I will ask an impertinant, space hoopy, question: would you liken yourself to Drew's Bechs in The Core, or Vasques in Aliens, or Ripley in Alien, or none of the above,

BTW Oolite 1.74 is rock stable, so far for my PC :) And the graphics are simply stunning and gettin better by the day. What a game. Now I am re- addicted again, nothing else for it but to go for the "Elite" goal  Late nights and replacement joysticks at the ready!!!

Regards.
Falconeer ( Currently in a Griff Boa Mk2 Armed to the teeth and sporting some unsporting anti-alien weaponry )

erm... I was princess leia at school  my main oolite persona is caleld 'Angel' after the wing commander games mostly from WC3... shes about the closest to how id like to be... a bit of a tragic figure. bechs in the core is a bit too clever by half, vasques a bit too ... sweaty! Ripley ... don't know... never really warmed to her character.

as for drews rebecca. she blasted me out of existance when i met her so not a fan (only kidding drew! great story!) i thought she was a bit too full of herself in status quo ... but she was a bit more real in the second book (mutualis?)... she comes across as a bit more of a greasemonkey though... id never want to get my lovely white dress/robes dirty... 8)

Hmmm....So its a Pricess Leia, with white robes, hardly breaking a sweat (sorry perspiring), as she deals out death with precision Lazers

But do you have a couple of those "Dainishes" strapped on yer head?

Just out of interest, whats your ship of choice going to be? I have kind of gone for Griffs Boa 2, with as much weaponary as possible, although the good old Cobra 3 (Griff's again) looks the part, nostalgically. However the "Falcon S" is a helluva ship.......550 LM speed, 100 tons capacity, fast pitch and roll.......oh and it comes with a Wookie, a Han Solo and erm a Pricess as well!

Best regards.
Falconeer.

'Nother newbie (though this isn't my first post; I stopped off to report a bug first).
Oolite does just get better and better, to the point where I can now ditch the Speccy emulator. This game is what my mates and I used to speculate and dream about while we should have been doing schoolwork. 20+ years on, it's finally getting there and I honestly never thought it would. I loved Elite. I love Oolite even more (much to the amusement/bemusement of my other half (another Rebecca, as it goes, and not one to muck about with)).

As for Wing Commander...I didn't want to be old Luke Skywalker either, so what it must have been like for female gamers not to have the choice...
The only thing I remember that game for was getting 'slightly annoyed' at a certain wingman - brash, annoying sort; I forget his name - and blowing him away. Which iirc ended the game. Ah well.

A word on Vasquez: Come on, the comeback to Hudson is a classic.
"Hey Vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man?"
"No. Have you?"
Way better than Rip just for that, IMO. :D

Yep, agree about Vasques :D

My other half just thinks its another mid life crisis, that going back 25 years to Elite, now in Oolite, is "living in the past"? Oh yes, but now we have shader graphics, Griff's ships, Drew's novels and check out Mr. Thargoid's weapons systems

As a fan of Aliens, the only thing we havn't got is some "CN20 Nerve Gas,The Only way To Be Sure"........Although with this game wait a minute and its an OXP :D Excellent!

I am glad its 25 years on, with my other half away next week I can look forward to some serious space expeditions.....well into the night

PS there's an amusing thread about "can't explain Oolite to the wife"?

Yep, saw the 'Can't explain...' thread. Had me laughing, though again the g/f didn't understand why.

Told a couple of old mates from school about Oolite. Their responses were initially 'Yeah, might check it out' and quickly proceeded to 'Mate! It's...it's...' and me going 'I know'. If we can't even explain to each other, what chance have we of making WAGs understand? :D

Of course, the other cool thing about Oolite is, it is 20-25 years on: we're not kids anymore. There is no 'bedtime' (though I was no stranger to seeing the sun come up outside after playing all night and thinking 'Crap! School tomorrow!').

Agree on the stories. Development and OXPs (which I have so many of, my ageing rig creaks) are great, but we also have novels/stories to boot!
I'm in Elite-geek heaven.
Maybe my ship really should be towed away as garbage...

Drew is about to release a book! I will be first in the bookshop, but I was after a signed copy  The subject is very interesting, look at his site!

Now, I have to get back to my recent mission, I have lost my mark! Should be a python with a renegade on board in the Laris system. Can't find the damn Python

Whilst I am completely alone this week, my Elite score is now going to improve......just wish it didn't get daylight so damn quick.. .. :D

I'm thinking of trying my hand at a bit of fic - assuming I can fit it in between other projects.
