Graphics problem - Oolite 1.65 on Ubuntu 10.04

Post by Evilgiraffe »

I have an unusual problem with Oolite on Ubuntu Lucid.

On any of the four cockpit views large portions of the scanner and various other bits of the HUD are not displayed. Oddly they reappear on any of the non-live screens (star chart, markets etc)

Does anyone have an idea what's causing this, and what to do about it?

Welcome Evilgiraffe - the first thing I would suggest is not using v1.65 - upgrade to v1.73.4 and report back.

(and the default position would be to post a copy (cut and paste) a copy of your latest.log here too)

http://www.oolite.org/download.shtml

This thread may also be of help.

Finally, what gfx card are you using? ATI/NV/Intel/other

The BB will have you up and running in no time I'm sure.

1.65 doesn’t even have a Latest.log. Stone age!

Good point - I'd forgotten that!

@Evilgiraffe
To install a .package for the first time you just need to do the following:

Code: Select all

$ chmod +x <packagename>.package
$ ./<packagename>.package # answer yes to download the runtime
The runtime is needed to be downloaded only the first time a package is installed.

Following the installation you may execute oolite from the Games/Oolite menu or from a command prompt

Code: Select all

$ oolite

Thanks for the quick replies.

I've upgraded to 1.73.4 and unfortunately the problem persists. If anything the framerate has dropped slightly too. :?

As for graphics card, it's an ATI mobility radeon X300. The fglrx driver is no longer an option for this card as it's been dropped to legacy status. Hence I'm using the open source radeon driver.

Here's a copy of my Latest.log

Code: Select all

As I see it the gfx driver is generic and does not support shaders.
Googling a bit I stumbled upon this ubuntu forums article:
http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org ... p?t=399728

That might do the trick for you.
