how did Avatar do? it will probably win all the special effects awards, I haven't seen it myself, just a small clip that must be the only one allowed on TV, the one with the 2 blue aliens that look like they're from the cover of a 'learn to use 3d studio max v5' book, flying around on the back of a butterfly monster with a wingspan so small it probably wouldn't be able to support itself in the air let alone fly about with guys on it's back weaving around the branches of a giant tree *grinds teeth irritated by hollywood blockbuster*
Stop what you're doing right now and go see it. Kthxbye.
PS: No, I don't know how it did with the Oscars and I don't really care. It's still awesome.

What a_c said.. watch it, and just ignore the things about it that might bug you. See it as a metaphor, and you'll get it..

Avatar and Hurt Locker, I have seen both and Hurt Locker is the better film. Avatar has envelope pushing effects that make good use of 3D but the plot is cliched to hell and back. Hurt Locker is a slower film with some really tense moments and certainly more satisfying to watch. Avatar is good as a popcorn movie but I recommend Hurt Locker if you want something more.
P.S. James Cameron won't be happy with Hurt Locker's Director Kathryn Bigelow after all it's his ex-wife.
This is part of what bothers me, not about Avatar itself, but of the critiques of Avatar. Because the metaphors can be interpreted numerous ways, many of which I don't agree with, it lends itself to being seen as a statement on X or on Y.... Can't it just be a movie thought up by a 12 year-old?
