I didn't, because 2am-6am CET even for me exceeds the time I am usually spending in front of the tee vee machine.
Anyway, it's a shame that Oolite again didn't win (and wasn't even nominated!) in the Best Community Based Retro Video Game category.
And it's really only a very feeble excuse that this category doesn't even exist.
(Same goes, of course, for the Friendliest Board This Side Of Riedquat (Whatever May Be On The Other Side) category.

how did Avatar do? it will probably win all the special effects awards, I haven't seen it myself, just a small clip that must be the only one allowed on TV, the one with the 2 blue aliens that look like they're from the cover of a 'learn to use 3d studio max v5' book, flying around on the back of a butterfly monster with a wingspan so small it probably wouldn't be able to support itself in the air let alone fly about with guys on it's back weaving around the branches of a giant tree *grinds teeth irritated by hollywood blockbuster*

Stop what you're doing right now and go see it. Kthxbye.Griff wrote:...Avatar... I haven't seen it myself, ...
PS: No, I don't know how it did with the Oscars and I don't really care. It's still awesome.
Edit: Just checked (I did care a bit, after all ). Avatar got art direction, cinematography and visual effects awards.

What a_c said.. watch it, and just ignore the things about it that might bug you. See it as a metaphor, and you'll get it..another_commander wrote:Stop what you're doing right now and go see it. Kthxbye.Griff wrote:...Avatar... I haven't seen it myself, ...

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Avatar and Hurt Locker, I have seen both and Hurt Locker is the better film. Avatar has envelope pushing effects that make good use of 3D but the plot is cliched to hell and back. Hurt Locker is a slower film with some really tense moments and certainly more satisfying to watch. Avatar is good as a popcorn movie but I recommend Hurt Locker if you want something more.
P.S. James Cameron won't be happy with Hurt Locker's Director Kathryn Bigelow after all it's his ex-wife.

This is part of what bothers me, not about Avatar itself, but of the critiques of Avatar. Because the metaphors can be interpreted numerous ways, many of which I don't agree with, it lends itself to being seen as a statement on X or on Y.... Can't it just be a movie thought up by a 12 year-old?Diziet Sma wrote:See it as a metaphor, and you'll get it..

Avatar… excellent effects, a hell of a job on the background development, pity they forgot to write a story. ;-)

It could have been worse, just think how it might have turned out if Cameron hadn't been watching Dances with Wolves the night before...Ahruman wrote:Avatar… excellent effects, a hell of a job on the background development, pity they forgot to write a story.

Indeed! Why write a new story when a perfectly good one already exists. Just change the names, include giant blue smurfs and away you go.Thargoid wrote:It could have been worse, just think how it might have turned out if Cameron hadn't been watching Dances with Wolves the night before...Ahruman wrote:Avatar… excellent effects, a hell of a job on the background development, pity they forgot to write a story.

"I hope you're working as hard as I am because I'm sweating spinal fluid here." - classic line...Disembodied wrote:You could say the same for In the Loop, which was up for (but didn't win) an Oscar. They showed it on BBC2 last night. Very funny. Should have got the award for Best Creative Swearing at least ...Diziet Sma wrote:See it as a metaphor, and you'll get it..

I particularly liked "Did you just say you had sex to stop a war? An anti-war shag?" ...DaddyHoggy wrote:"I hope you're working as hard as I am because I'm sweating spinal fluid here." - classic line...
@ Sendraks: do you think the success of Avatar is the reason why a big-screen version of the Smurfs has been given the go-ahead for 2011? "Another movie with lots of CGI blue people in a big forest, you say? Whoopee!"
