Xelite has a targeting computer (for only 900Cr) which shows:-
Ship type
Shields
Velocity
Missiles
Distance
Laser power
The shield % indicates how much damage you have inflicted.

I stubbornly refuse to fourth it because it didn't show you that info in the original Elite and therefore must be a desecration of said sacred cow. Even though there isn't really any sound reason for not showing the user that particular information, other than it'll take away the element of suprise...

I support a 7 ly limit. You could finesse it with a secondary fuel tank/fuel generator(I think you've mentioned something like that in a recent thread) and some device that allows jumping to an arbitrary deep space destination. I don't know if it's possible, but you could always try using the fuel ...
