Re: Griff's normalmapped ship remakes
If your wonderful models are ever trying to choke lesser systems, you could always make a simple model and bake a normal map from the high-detail model.
Chuck them both into xNormal and hey presto! *trying to make it seem easy*

Re: BGS - The BackgroundSet
Hmmm, is there no way to replace the black background with a flat (mission?) image? It just seems to be begging for something there. Scenes could be ray-traced in Blender..? I may just put up a concepts thread to chuck ideas in, although I have some ships I was intending for a company with a backsto...

Re: [RELEASE] Towbar OXP v0.6
Hows about a licence/insurance? That way when things are quiet profits are eaten up, but when they're good your profits over the licence/insurance margin are very good? Just jumping in and making a random suggestion

Docking tunnel is great Yet again distracted, shall I still post ideas for docking menial machinery etc? Will there eventually be an image behind the landing tunnel that you need imagery for?

Re: Where do pirates come from?
I should think that the nomadic existence from system to system would be a way of life for some pirate groups, like gypsies (not to say that gypsies are pirates of course). I always liked the ominous feeling of reaching the system star knowing it would likely be dangerous with pirates. A combination...

Re: Where do pirates come from?
True, but a strong scenario should remain beleivable with OXPs too. I guess by some way pirate bases could be out of their normal jurisdiction

Re: Where do pirates come from?
I would ask who are these pirates and how would they survive if the situation was real? A single base would be too easy to destroy unless it was somehow near immpossible to find or attack by local GalCop forces, or anyone else. A deep-space lodging that was ignored by truce because it has its own de...

Re: ZygoUgo's OXPs!
That was indeed my idea, however it turned out that modelling bas-relief was just as tricky as full 3D. I'll see if things change now I'm going to be using Sketchup as my starting point, at least that way I can pick away at something without me screwing it up. I attempted the bas-relief style idea o...

Re: BGS - The BackgroundSet
I rather enjoy coming up with menial vehicles and such that you would find in the docks, especially one I liked that belongs to a company I am yet to use for possible future ship designs, that would fit in with what you are after I think. I also started designing some heavy military and navy battle ...

Re: ZygoUgo's OXPs!
:D Not far off.. I ended up with multiple designs with different faces (invented planetary creatures), and towers all over the place, and plasma turrets that look like eyes for, well, the eyes. Influences by russian designs and colours, I ultimately wanted to make partially modular Russian, Asian an...

Re: ZygoUgo's OXPs!
I have indeed, although at first designing some crazy space castles for Fuedal states that are way beyond my current modelling capabilities. Part of the reason I haven't yet attempted a rock-hermit is that unlike Griff my ability to model mechanical things is relatively useless, I find Blender a tri...

Colour for flash effect
Since Darksoul added his collection of colour images to the realm of nebulas, I have begun hand painting my set, it seems Oolite does a marvellous trick of still generating its own colours, but the colour of the images gets mixed in and comes through to differing degrees, a perfect mix of variation ...
