Re: Contracts and reputation
So it depends on the systems you pass through? I'm not sure how much I may insist on my anecdata (with a sample size of perhaps a couple hundred jumps since I started doing deliveries, and no notes taken) in the presence of people who are as deep into oolite as you guys. That said: There's a higher...

Re: Contracts and reputation
They never really appealed to me, anyway. Whizzing through systems to get to a destination and with no time to explore anything properly... Hmmm, I'm not aware that there is much exploring to be done. One sun per system, one planet, one station... apart from rock hermits, what is there to be discov...

Re: Contracts and reputation
Answering my own question: it took me over 50 parcel deliveries until I noticed any kind of improvement. From then on, it went quickly, however. By now I have completed more than 90 deliveries; the counter in the savegame seems to stop at 70, though, so I guess this is as good as it gets. Payment ha...

Contracts and reputation
I traded my Cobra for an Asp and started delivering parcels. For now, I'm losing money and don't quite know how. Trading precious metals and the occasional bounty ought to pay the bills but apparently it doesn't. Anyway, I started looking into the savegame to see how much longer I have to run a defi...

Re: How to fight?
I've not done them myself, but I understand that the higher-paying contracts are usually higher-paying for jolly good reasons... as in Real Life... I expected to find assassins somewhere along the way, I didn't expect a welcome committee at every single witchpoint. On top of that, all outlaws I enc...

Re: How to fight?
A paddling pool is not going to help -- my current problem is that I have accepted an contract and find un-avoidable, injector-equipped assassins at almost every witchpoint.
I'll try the "skilled NPCs" ...looks like it's default setting is "lowest skill for everyone".

How to fight?
Sniping with the rear laser rarely works for me: I just take too long to get my laser lined up by the last fraction of a pixel. Getting in close, knives out, works somewhat better as long as I only have a few opponents. Most of the time, however, I face four or more, which easily becomes an hour of ...

Can I become a licensed Arms Dealer? (nope)
So, I'm offered a delivery contract, 31t of firearms over 7 jumps for a net payout of 1200 credits. I can make as much from a single load of computers, so that offer is an insult to my business sense. However, Firearms? I'd totally take that contract if it allowed me to legally trade in yet another ...

Re: Finding some gold fills my cargo hold
You can read about the vagaries of cargo marshalling, and what happens when you scoop cargo, here: Cargo marshalling Makes perfect sense, but shouldn't that somehow be made more transparent to the user? Second page lists all cargo in my hold and would be a good place to show a detailed list of how ...

Finding some gold fills my cargo hold
Oolite 1.90, Linux: I have 35t cargo space, and 34t of computers in the hold. There is a battle. The last enemy dissolves into a few cargo containers. I pick up a container, it contains gold (not much, 7kg perhaps). I get a message that my hold is now full, the scoop shows the red chevron. Calling u...

Re: Non-English Keyboard Problems
BUMP!! The only safe keys are A-Z, 0-9, comma(,) and period(.) -- anything else can be wherever. In the old days, I could commonly get the desired result by having a picture of a US keyboard handy and pressing the right key, regardless of how it's labeled on my keyboard. More recently I have to pre...
