Re: Contracts and Reputation
If we're talking realism, how come ship's equipment and cargo can be destroyed by hull-penetrating incoming fire, but passengers (and for that matter the pilot!) are never harmed?

Re: Hardware Guide
Well, I went ahead and bought the i3-2100 . Cost about £150 for MB + CPU + 4G ram. In fact, it is more than adequate for oolite. FPS is around 60, and loading up the OXPs that I'd had to drop with older hardware because they slowed the game down too much made no difference. I have just flown all aro...

Re: Problem with performFlee / Pirate Coves
Pilots die at a very high rate (just count the explosions), and are replaced, so a large proportion -- probably a majority -- of pilots you see are rookies.
It shows.
It shows.

Re: [WIP] Ship's Accountant 0.1
One thing I forgot to mention...
As it stands adding the OXP adds the Ship's Accountant functionality. I think it's maybe more normal for stuff like this to be installable equipment. Is that right? Probably another change to make before version 1

If Mark Twain said that, he was quoting Adam Smith.

Re: [WIP] freighttrain
Ok, I will buy that to some extent. The reason why I don't quite buy the analogy is because of the piracy in Oolite which afaik is not really prevalent anywhere but Somalia atm. Second, a freight train in space has an awful lot of weak points (several joints that may break between wagons, no way of...

[WIP] Ship's Accountant 0.1
This is a pre-release of my Ship's Accountant OXP. It tracks profit and losses through the game, and provides summary reports (when docked) via station interfaces (F4). I wouldn't really advise adding it to your normal play as yet: if I make any changes to the persisted data format, then it will get...

Re: Scripting requests
The patch above is not intended to be included in trunk (post 1.78 or whenever) as it is -- I posted it as a demonstration that what I was suggesting was in principle quite easy. If there's going to be a change that oxp writers can start to take advantage of, it should be complete, and include a way...

Re: Scripting requests
That solves the not-quite-lining-up problem, but it still seems wrong that scripts are iteratively inserting spaces to get a column in the right place, when all the code to directly write at a preset column position is already there in the GuiDisplayGen class.

Re: Scripting requests
Most of the built-in screens in a station have text lined up in columns. It's not possible to do that in an OXP (unless I'm missing something). Some of them get there nearly by padding with spaces, but that's extra complicated, and doesn't line up neatly. It wouldn't be very hard to support columns ...

Re: Flight Log OXP
Can you put a total (and an average per system) on the page? Individual credit changes by system are fairly useless, since they vary depending on what you bought and sold. So it could report a loss at a system when there was a virtual profit. But a 10 system total and average would shoe the trend. ...

Re: 1.77 and OXPs
Hmm, what's the scrap value of an empty cargo pod? In Real Life, an empty shipping container is an expensive item, going for between one and two thousand pounds. There's a large business in getting them from where they're emptied to where they're needed. There must be some angle in that somewhere...

Re: Captain's Log
I have a set of different reports you can cycle through (and may add a menu to choose one as I add more: currently there are 6). So if one overloads you with detail, you can see one that gives a higher-level view, or covers a shorter period. That said, the UI is the limiting bit: I'd love to have mo...

Re: Captain's Log
There's also a "ship's accountant" OXP in development: tracks your profit-and-loss from trading, damage, bounties, scooped cargo, and shows you reports by date, by jump, or by activity. It's not far off a "WIP" pre-release state, now. The report layout needs a little work, and I ...

What level of graphics hardware do you need to get the best out of Oolite? My kids each have an old on-board intel graphics - the G31 chipset which has been around since 2007. They get a very good framerate, but no support for shaders. I'm guessing, then, that a more recent intel on-chip processor -...
