If you don't find the standard game challenging enough, why not add some of the many expansions? Add a war, an evil criminal organisation, or whatever else takes your fancy. Anyone can make money on straight cargo runs but you need a shedload of money to start with, or you can't afford the deposits...

Anaconda across the galaxy a very easy and a very boring thing. It would destroy the game balance. Some ships can have less than 7 LY of fuel, and some can have more than 7 LY, i.e. from 3 to 15. ED also suffers from the same flaw as F:E2 and FFE, in that bigger ships are pretty much better by default.
