Re: Oolite on Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 1 works without major tweaks

I'm pretty sure there's something other going on with Ubuntu. I entered the arena sporting Oneiric 11.10 and ended up at 12.04 with all the updates on a twin core laptop and downwards to single core machines a la native and proprietary AMD and ATI video hardware and the game played less well on stoc...

Re: Early sci-fi film about lunar landing

 Sorry chaps (and chappesses) I forget not everyone is from Essex let alone the UK - 'Don't rub it in' in that context was meant to convey something like 'O.k - I'm ancient and envy your youth' more than 'I am the offspring of milkmen' (Although my father was indeed a milkman in his youth) :sho...

Re: Skylon

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Olympics. Whereas I had expected the usual lack of good organisation and profligate money laundering with intolerable extra load on our already antiquated and overburdened infrastructure the actual event turned out to be a credit to our nation and I suppose a g...

Re: Early sci-fi film about lunar landing

That is close indeed JazHaz! 8) - But I still don't think it's the bunny I'm looking for, but is is eerily similar  . Maybe what I saw was the 'lost version' that you mentioned? Although if it is lost then that's peculiar as I've seen it on TV twice as a child - firstly on a black and white T...

Re: Early sci-fi film about lunar landing

[edit] I found a synopsis for 'Once in a new moon'. Something about a British village being shot into space - so I'm pretty sure that's not the bunny. Oh hum. Close but no (virtual] cigar [/edit] Ah, 'tis a knotty problem. It's not the crazy French thing, Ahruman, circa 1902, that much I do know. I ...

Early sci-fi film about lunar landing

I've been trying to remember the name of an early film about a moon landing that I saw as a child.. :? then I thought - why don't I ask the sci-fi experts?! It was in black and white and was, I believe, British made. I'm guessing the date at late 1920's to very early 1930's. A projectile (loo...

Re: Debian Wheezy (Testing)

Shame they never really fixed DOS. I thought that wasn't too bad if a bit psychotic. '95 had a little database in which it kept a list of installed accessories which was why it was able to list them instantaneously. When we went to 98 that had disappeared and it said 'searching...'. Made me laugh. L...

 I envy those who can experience this  Will someone put up a video sample of deliciousness for us pedestrians? Anyhow, congratulations on effing the ineffable, so to speak 8)

Re: Debian Wheezy (Testing)

I couldn't believe that Linux had partition imaging available from the command line! We had to employ all manner of weird and wonderful solutions to image a windows partition and they only ever made it more difficult to do with every OS they released :x . I wouldn't go back for all the tea i...

Re: artificial gravity

That'll be bosun Higgs Tricky. Sad story.. he went sleep walking on deck one night and all we heard was a splash and someone yelling what sounded like 'bucket'

Re: artificial gravity

Anyone found a bosun recently? Doesn't all that mean that the Higgs field likely exists and one of the ramifications of that and the ability to manipulate it is infinite acceleration and artificial gravity? Not that I'm a physicist but I thought that was why they are pouring more money in to the res...

Re: Starting Oolite from scratch... OXP recommendations?

There are sooo many OXP's - I haven't tried them all. But I'll tell you now of some that I know and those I miss.. (cue for a song?) Chupacabra HUD (Love this HUD - I can actually see it!) Cargo shepherd (When your too busy to go shopping) Delightful docking (Docks delightfully) Escort contracts (If...

Re: Debian Wheezy (Testing)

Debian is a beautiful thing and was the only kernel to report 'error probing SMB1' with the AN7 board. In comparison with Ubuntu it's fast and furious. I had no real problems installing it (that I can remember) and I'm a complete klutz. I liked it so much I downloaded the installation DVD as well as...

Re: Debian Wheezy (Testing)

I had a look at installing KDE on Ubuntu and it seems there might be integration problems. I think what I'll do is hive off the data and install Fedora or Debian. I might try Ubuntu again but I think it needs more oomph than any of my machines can provide. Shame, nice OS and by and large it all works.
