(New Sport) Hermit Jellying

Post by Staer9 »

After a short chat on the oolite chatroom I decided to make yet another of these 'challenge' threads.

To attempt all you need is mine and Smivs 'Star-Jelly' oxp. Often when you find a hermit there will also be a Star-Jelly or two floating around it, the aim is to get it close enough, then shoot it. When Star-Jellys are shot they release a cloud of Quirium, you just have to try and get them close enough to the hermit to destroy it, and if you did it properly you should not become a fugitive (unless you were one to begin with).

Try it, then vote on the poll above.

Now Why would I want to hurt a poor little rock Hermit... they do nothing wrong, are cute and cuddly, sometimes a little irrascible but if you have booze, they will do anything but purr for you.

SAVE the Hermits!!!!!!! They are your friends and a place to dock and shoot the Bull with.

If I hear about you hurting my friends... OOOOOOO, you Don't want to know what will happen.... I will hunt you down with extreme vengence.

Now if you want to put a jelly next to your ship.......I am very good at sniping.

Yah-Ta-Hey... putting on war paint and honing in the long lances looking to gather scalp, not count coup.

What if that hermit had named the jellies? There goes Floating Bob minding his own business happily picking up the scraps left by "farmer Joe" on the rock. Suddenly you appear, perforate Bob and THE LAST THING HE HEARS ARE THE DYING SCREAMS OF FARMER JOE AS HIS EXPLODING JELLY CORPSE INCINERATES THE ONLY FAMILY HE HAS EVER KNOWN!

"I'm Sorry Farmer Joe!" Bob would cry, as flaming plasma tears him apart! "I didn't mean to kill you! IIIIEEEEEEEE!"

Just as long as some stone hearted spacer has got their 5 minutes of homicidal amusement to stave off a minor bout of boredom, doesn't really matter does it?

Also the term "Hermit Jellying" sounds perverse. :?

I have no qualms about destroying something that will just re-spawn itself randomly, if however it was an online game and it would effect other players there is a chance that I would refrain from destroying everything... but just a chance

I'm afraid I'm to blame for that. I thought this passtime should have a certain 'ring' to it.

An introspective attitude to destruction, that's what we like to see. :D

Such a sensitive caring lot deserves to have a decent chance of a greenpeace ship coming to the defense of the jellies whenever a vessel or hostile vessel gets close. Add in appropriate comm messages and maybe a blocking behaviour to prevent jellies getting shot or a ramming at low speed type behaviour. Call the shipname Groonpeace Activists?

Save the jellies! Save the jellies! :( :) :D

I believe the late great Douglas Adams did his level best to make the universe just a ****ed up as the world we know, if not even more so. So, staying true to this idea (and ideal) I applaud the idea.

Space hippies; fan-god-damn-tastic.

The problem with the jellys is that they require a mere 1 hit with a pulse laser to explode... so the groonpeace agent will probably be killed in the quirium cloud

Perhaps somebody could oxp a special weapon - a harpoon - to drag the jelly to a special rendering ship where jelly is broken down to make high-grade quirium fuel - the Groonpeace ships would then have something to get cross at...

That would be seriously funny to watch, some hognoose grabbing a jelly and groonpeace shooting the hognoose but being carefull not to hit the jelly. If they did hit the jelly they would all be blown up by the quirium

OXP request: hognoose jelly hunters

Nonono! Ramming! The space hippies should ram the hognose jellyfisher simply because they are non-violent and want to save the ooniverse from captain spoongebob and his first mate Patroock and their quest for the King Jelly! Maybe there would be a market for the delicious jelly...pressed seafood patty condiments. Oxp request seconded. :)

I do love it when my drug/pain-induced musings lights a flame of a thread of thought in others - and this is why this is the best forum on the Internet.
