Save Anywhere

Post by js_leitch »

I've just come back to this game after a long absence (I think since v1.65). It seems the "Save Anywhere" OXP doesn't work in the current version... are there plans to fix that?

Welcome back!

Frame is the author of Save Anywhere. Not sure what his plans are. Anyone know what Frame's up to?

You can see what new OXPs there are since you last played here:
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP_List

You can sort by date.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks. I used to rely on that one quite heavily, but now I realize I can get by just fine without. Maybe I'll take a crack at it myself one day...

It would be useful, as I sometimes find the game crashes before I can get to a main station and save. Especially after a good run-in pirate hunting and cargo scooping.

There's a relatively straight forward fix (done by CSOTB) to make Save Anywhere 1.75 compatible. However, because the OXP is Frame's it can't "officially" be fixed by somebody else. However the fix details are on the wiki page for this OXP:

I must try to remember to ask him about it next time he pops in to the space bar on IRC.

He was logged on the bb as late as the 11th of Dec. It might be worth dropping of a PM.

What's to ask? He said at the time what needed to be changed (only two letters in the script, IIRC), and why he wasn't going to change it. He hasn't changed it yet, so presumably his attitude hasn't changed.

What amazes me - as someone who arrived after the fact but who easily found this information when I searched for it - is that somehow a myth evolved that Save Anywhere was broken and needed some genius to come along who could fix it. The information has always been available by reading the original Save Anywhere thread: why it no longer works, what you need to change to make it work, and why Frame wouldn't upload a "fixed" version.

:D

Your welcome.

It's a funny story really, I was standing on the toilet hanging a clock when I slipped on the wet porcelein and fell, hitting my head against the sink. When I came to I had a vision, a revelation, the shield capacitor...oh, wait, wrong story. I was just bored and lonely and needed something to do. That's how it happened and that's all that happened, I swear, really.

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

had a look , and there where more deprecation's than what CommonSenseOTB has listed on the wiki.

There is a lot of things going on in the background, that while on the surface seems to work fine, saved
surroundings will spawn incorrectly due to deprecation of != in favor of !==.

While I am at it, i'm streamlining some operations on the mission variable, making loading and saving
faster..

What? Deprecation of !=? This is a hoax, Frame.

if(guiScreen != "GUI_SCREEN_STATUS") is absolutely valid. Nothing changed for comparing primitives.
