typo in error message

Post by Commander McLane »

Code: Select all

[station.launchShip.failed]: Canceled a launch for a Cobra Courier SE with role scavenger, that is to big for the docking port of the Asteroiden-Einsiedler.
Should be 'too big'. And no comma, I think.

While you're at it: Cancelled

And it's mixing languages.

And overall slightly improved grammar might be: Cancelled launch for a Cobra Courier SE with role scavenger, as it is too large for the docking port of the Rock Hermit.
The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Considering how big a normal Rock Hermit opening is...I don't understand why a Cobra Courier SE couldn't fit out the hole. It's roughly the same dimensions as a standard Cobra 3.

That's not the developers' fault. I'm using a German localization OXP.

(Although the message could perhaps use the name instead of the display name.)

The Rock Hermit Hole is quite small. And while you can bring your own Cobra into a somehow diagonal position when you dock in order to get some leeway, the game will launch ships straight. That can make a difference.

Maybe that merits a slight redesign? ...Since Cobra 3's are a main part of the Rock Hermit's typical defensive ships and scavengers.

Yes, but all Oolites internal ships always fit the port of a hermit. It are mainly oxp authors that decided to create bigger ships. And I think the cobra3 is the widest of all core ships. (thargoids excluded)

The hermit doc is 138 x 138 (oolite used a cubic box for its calculations that is a bit bigger than the visible hexagon.)

The cobra3 is 130 meter wide (fits a hermit doc)
The cobra3 rapier or cobraCourier (both from wolfwoods_variants.oxp) are 140.5 meter wide (don't fit in a hermit)

Ok, that's good then...I though Cobra 3's no longer fit.

Richard
99% of all rectangular docks have a size of 192.000 x 64.000. You can retrieve the value from the dat file in the Models folder of the oxp. When you are lucky, it already contains the model size in a comment.

If not you must look for the biggest/smallest x and y value in the VERTEX list. (Could be a pain for complex ships, but docks are usually simple)

However, the player can always manually dock. There won't be a size check on fast dock and manually dock. (I think the docking computer does check)
