What laser to chose ?

What laser to chose ?
Classic question but unable to find a correct answer, so "vox populi, vox Dei", I will make a poll about your opinion on laser. I have presently an honest beam laser, overheating when you are in the middle of a fight. I am wondering whether military could not be better.
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

The military laser's superior range makes this a no-brainer.

Agree with McLane. No well-dressed ship should be seen without one at least two.

Military laser, at least on the fore and aft mounts... worth every credit.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

You have to have a light touch on the trigger (and a steady hand on the controls), but it's the military laser all the way for me! Like Commander McLane says, it's a matter of range ...

another vote for mil lasers front and aft

It's possible to hit a target that gone off the scanners with a Mil laser. Always helps ones smugness when you do that.

I've also timed how long it takes for a beam and military laser to hit their respective temperature cut out points and they seem identical to me. I don't know about the cool down times.
If these are indeed the same, there's no advantage for the beam laser other than cost.
If the beam laser ran twice as 'cool' as the mil laser I'd probably have one.
Cheers,
Drew.

As in Elite, the beam laser is a 'stepping-stone', that enables you to survive, while saving enough cash for the mil laser.drew wrote:If these are indeed the same, there's no advantage for the beam laser other than cost.

Re: What laser to chose ?
On the MKIII, I use military lasers except for a mining laser on the port side. On the Boa, a military laser because it can only fit one laser.
I don't figure there'll be much debate on lasers. Unlike some other facets of the game, lasers have a clear best choice with none of that pesky balance consideration.
Consolation prize would go to mining lasers, which actually serve a useful purpose if you mine. But I wouldn't want to be out there with nothing but a mining laser, they aren't much in a fight.

Re: What laser to chose ?
Sorry for the confusion. Griff Boa proto. It has turrets port, starboard, aft and top. So one laser is possible, the front. Makes some fights a bit tricky since flipping and using another laser while the front cools isn't an option. Turrets fire slow, and are not player controlled, so they are of little use for long range fighting, but very good for keeping missiles off you. Which is good because it's also not a very fast or nimble ship. "Freighter with turrets" would be a good basic description. LOL

Another vote for the obvious choice...
