Your current employment in your Ooniverse

Post by Bugbear »

Why am I asking this? Because I'm nosy!!!! :D  :D

My definitions...
  • Trader
  • Bounty Hunter / Vigilante - you go for the Offenders and Fugitives, perhaps with a bit of selfless defence of those under attack.
  • Assassin - your'e a gun for hire, taking out specified marks
  • Pirate - scourge of GalCop
  • Contrabandista (for El Viejo) - sorry mate, but I don't know whether these are good guys or bad guys.
  • Taxi driver
  • Tourist - you've decked yourself out in a luxurious craft, that costs more to run than you could ever hope to recoup...

I think of myself as a trader, but to be honest I seldom buy stuff from main stations any more unless it's cheap gold, platinum or gems. I bounce around the place, picking dangerous systems, knocking off the pirates and taking their stuff, mostly!

Miss the option "explorer"

I'd like to see a freelancer (or similar) option too: mostly clean trader/pirate/bounty hunter depending on circumstances and/or my mood at the time! ;)

I'd probably fit into Kak's freelancer option.

I'm usually carrying some sort of cargo, it's just that I usually choose to trade in dangerous systems whilst always leaving space in the hold for any goods others might mislay.

Of course, these systems often contain spacebars (piloting is thirsty work) or my contract route might take me through a system with a Navy station. Come to think of it I get sidetracked so often it's a wonder I get anywhere at all.

It already exists in a slightly different way: the poll allows you to choose up to three options.

Personally I went for Bounty Hunter/Vigilante, Assassin, and Pirate. (Yes, I'm rather an aggressive player. ). Although I currently also like to indulge in a pastime which I could dub 'scavenger mining'. I look for a Rock Hermit with a Miner, then let the Miner break up all the asteroids, and scoop all the splinters before he does, causing him to target the next asteroid until my hold is full.

How rude of me, I neglected to share my profile: Taxi driver / Trader / Vigilante

The vigilante is a bit tough in a Boa, especially when I don't have much fuel left to use the injectors, but I'm always ready to assist a fellow traveller in distress.

The 'tourist' is sort of an explorer. Maybe I was a bit harsh in my definition!

I'd considered a 'Scavenger' role also but ran out of option slots. To me a scavenger just cruises into a battle, ignores the scuffle going on and scoops whatever's going begging.

I am mostly a "Pest Controller". I like to induce a miss-jump and clear up the pests I find there. I also like to take reservist duty and fight the bugs that way with the odd pirate fleet for a bit of variety. Can prove veerrry lucrative.

I also am a strong defender of the innocent trader. I remember back to the days in my sturdy Cobra III when pirates would rob me and leave me all bruised and bloodied, now the tables are turned and all pirates never leave off my scanner in one piece. The amount of times I dock at a station and a whole Smörgåsbord of commanders are queuing up to buy me a fOosters to thank me and my crew for saving their lives and the lives of their children, wives, cousins, aunts and nephews... It really can be quite embarrassing you know!

I went for taxi driver and bounty hunter, although that's because it's the closest thing to "Navy reservist" the list had.

[thread derailment warning]
Out of curiosity: When adding up the numbers for each option, the result is the same as 'Total votes'. But since we're allowed to pick more than one option (and I know that at least one person has - don't ask me how), wouldn't it make more sense for the 'Total votes' number to show how many individuals have voted, and not how many boxes they ticked?
I realize this is probably something that's beyond local control, and that if I really wanted to make it an issue I'd have to go bother the phpbb peeps. I just found it odd, is all.

Good point, even though I'd have loved to choose 6 options... :P
