OXPs and release dates not in All_OXPs_by_Category

Post by mcarans »

Hi,

At the moment, the most useful OXP list definitely for newbies and probably for everyone else is:
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/All_OXPs_by_Category

Unfortunately there are OXPs missing from here that can be found in the A-Z list eg. Deep Horizons System Redux 2 v0.5.1 which can be found here: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXPs_% ... _%27F%27#D

Another thing is the release date is included in the A-Z list not in the category list.

Please can OXP authors add their OXPs to the category list page and can that page also have release dates?

Thanks,
Mike

I've just added 'Accessories OXP' to the 'Ship Sets' section as it was absent from the page, and that seemed the most appropriate place.
Regarding release dates, I have not added these, as none of the OXPs on the page seem to have them. Perhaps we can agree whether they are needed on this page before we all start adding them. I don't know how relevant this information is, and adding the date will make the list/page much longer, as the date takes up a whole line to itself. Adding dates to them all will double the length of the page

Thanks very much.

I would suggest that the tables get an extra column for release date ie.
Name Short Description Release Date

That should not result in too many extra lines.

Didn't know that page existed. Thats probably why so many OXPs are missing from it!

EDIT: will probably just use the existing date feature we use on the alphabetical pages.

Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)

It's really not easy to find  It needs a prominent link from the main OXP homepage in the 'Index of OXPs' section, perhaps?

Seems a little random to me in places too. Energy equipment is in there twice (once for each item it supplies), and Armoury is in the wrong list.

Plus there are some missing of mine too.

It's not a list I've ever seen before either. That said I'm also wondering why it's there at all, when it would be simpler to use the semi-automatically generated categories already in the wiki (see here for examples). If OXPs have the suitable category links in them then the list auto-writes itself.

I'm currently going through all the OXPs that are on the alphabetical and adding anything that is missing. I see what you mean about Armoury. It's in Equipment, but not in Weapons. Will move it now.

The work of the Wiki Wizard is never done.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Yes, kind of annoyed that this page exists. As Thargoid says, the Categories lists exist already.

I quite like the page...it's nice to have the lists with the category headers on one page so you can just scan down them rather than clicking backwards and forwards between multiple pages.
Put simply, I think it's far more useful, and far easier to use.
Also, half the categories on the 'Category:Oolite expansion packs' page don't seem to make any sense. For example 'Station OXPs' is just a list of OXPs that include some type of station even though that may be only a minor aspect of the OXP, and 'OXP Lists' just takes you to another list, of the alphabetical lists!
There doesn't seem to be a category for the retextures and ship sets either.

I could add that category.

EDIT: have created it, and started adding pages to the category, starting with your ShipSet.

EDIT2: here it is: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Catego ... xture_OXPs

You see, I agree with this, perhaps because this is a page I found early on after starting Oolite. The thing I like about it is the format, ie the OXPs by category, with a brief description of the OXPs. It's a 'Synopsis Page' rather than just an 'Index', and for that reason is much more useful.
Having said that, it's a bit of a mess at the moment, and could benefit from a bit of tidying up. If no-one else wants to do it, I'll try to have a look over the next day or so, RL permitting.

Is Pirate Coves OXP really a Mission? Or should it just be in Dockable Objects?

I agree that Pirate Coves OXP adds dockable objects rather than mission/s.
