I've seen some nice Oolite vids on youtube. I don't think I have an interest in posting movies there, but it'd be nice sometimes to be able to kick on a recorder to be able to show friends a particularly spectacular view or a fun bit of piloting or dogfighting.
I'm currently running Ubuntu jaunty. Anyone know of a video and sound recorder that would run on that and work for recording Oolite?

Sleep? Who needs sleep? Got game. No need sleep.
Found this on digg:

There are some spammy comments by a few people who seem to be offended by the very existence of linux, but there's a handy list (more than 3 if you read the comments) of screen capture programs that should do the job for windowed Oolite.
Hope this helps!

Next station... Cannes Film Festival!
Hmmm... What about an OXP giving a cinema-station, where people could select from a variety of Oolite videos
or even highlights from your own fights!?!
It would be a nice recreation time, if this station appeared in witchspace, just to use it after an exhausting encounter with Thargoids.

What a fantastic idea - just persuade the Dev team to get Oolite engine to support embedded video on the missions screen and voila - Dock -> mission screen -> select showing -> sit back and relax...Getafix wrote:@DaddyHoggy

That could be fun. It'd also open up the possibility for at least limited video for mission briefings and etc.
Some people always act weird about Linux. I put off switching over from Windows for years, mostly because Linux wouldn't run some of the software I use a lot. I changed over to Ubuntu a couple years ago and after I learned to run new software for the sort of things I do, it's been fine. I wouldn't change back and I don't run dual boot for anything. LOL
I've gotten RecordMyDesktop working. Sorta. It will record other windows and selected pieces of other windows, but it acts odd on Oolite. On Oolite, the recording seems to be of the first frame of whatever was showing in Oolite when I started the recorder, and only a teeny section right near the mouse cursor actually shows a tiny fragment of the motion I was seeing on Oolite and trying to record.
I figure I may have to try some different screen rez settings and etc in Oolite, maybe? Might be some option in the advanced menu for RecordMyDesktiop I need to find and tick or something. Couldn't figure out how to do a capture of full screen, which is how I usually run Oolite, but running Oo in a window gets at least a capture as I've described.
On the bright side, the assorted test runs have been a bit of practice on Coriolis landings with full throttle and injectors.
Figure the bay crew on that station must be hating me by now. LOL

I'll have a look at my settings and see what they are next time I fire up my Ubuntu box (Karmic Koala)Ganelon wrote:That could be fun. It'd also open up the possibility for at least limited video for mission briefings and etc.
