Trunk 1.74.0.2926 Misjump causes crash

Post by ADCK »

In the version i'm currently using misjumping causes the game to hang indefinatly.

Nothing in the log about it.

Tested it on 1.73 with the exact same addons, no crash.

<EDIT> nevermind, just tested it w/o addons and it works fine... wonder which addon is causing it?

At a guess its going to be a misjump analyser or a thargoid or navy one as these are the ones that do most of the adding in witchsace.

I guess it could also be one that reskins planets, as there is no plantet in witchspace.

EDIT: does the log give anything interesting towards the end?

Try half of them. If it's crashing, reduce that to half of it...if it's not, try with half of those you did remove initially ;) Much faster but still annoying...

I found the culperit, you'd never guess which one.

Tionisla Orbital Graveyard (tgy_dev.oxp )

Does that even do anything with misjumps?

<edit> just went thru every file in TGY, i can't see anything that would do it. The plists are oddly formated, using a weird mix of spaces and tabs, but otherwise it seems only set up to modify the Tionisla system. weirdness.

<edit again> just got another crash from misjumping w/o tgy... guess i'll try again.

ok just did 10 successful misjumps in a row, looks like my pc just can't handle multiple versions of griff's normalmapped thargoids, not an error, just a out-of-memory thingy, which is odd since i have a fairly beefy PC.

It could also be a combination of oxps. Have had this a while ago. To spot this you could enable the _override key in logcontrol.plist and analyze the last few thousand lines of your Latest.log then .-)

Since a few weeks the trunk builds crash every time when I add a ship from griff_thargoids_organic_normalmapped.oxp. Spawning one of those thargoigds consistently crashed Oolite with me. I have not tested if it was a compatibility with other oxp's but removing this oxp fixed it for me.

So it might not be the misjump causing it, but the special ships it is adding there.

Ya, it seems the trunk really doesn't like that ship, can't figure out why either. Was there some minor change to shaders in the trunk?

Minor? What sort of talk is that! ;)

There were some changes to the shaders, indeed. Unless I'm clearly wrong.
Ahruman would be the one who knows most about this one, though... :P
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

Er… I can’t think of anything relevant to ships, no.

Strange, cause it only effects that one ship, and only on the trunk.

i just did a update to trunk revision 2936, windows XP sp3 and i'm getting Oolite freezing too with this oxp, it's the only one i have installed and as soon as oolite is going to draw an organic thargoid on the demo screen parade, oolite just locks up, it seems to be related to

Code: Select all

like_ship = "thargoid";
in the shipdata.plist in this oxp, the tharglets are working ok, i found that if i edited the oxp so that the thargoids were given the line

Code: Select all

like_ship = "tharglet";

the oxp worked OK (or at least it drew the ships on the demo screen parade, i haven't done any further testing i'm afraid

OK, i've done a bit more digging about and it appears to be

Code: Select all

missiles = 5;
that the griff thargoids inherit from their like_ship to the default oolite thargoid, and it's not the like_ship process causing the problem either, if i add missiles = 5; to the griff_thargoid in it's own shipdata.plist file Oolite still crashes

edit: no, i might be wrong about that, it could be the missile_role the griff_thargoids are using that is causing the problem or a combination of 'missile_role' and 'missiles ='

No, not could be but IT IS the missile role. When commenting out the line

Code: Select all

missile_role = "griff_organic_thargon";
everything works okay. And just spawning a griff_organic_thargon is also okay.
In past December there were also changes with missiles. And a special case for thargoids.....
