Avatars (again... sorry...)

Post by JeffBTX »

Sorry... apparantly this is an old issue... don't mean to be a pain...

I did search on this, and read all the threads about the avatar upload problem (not a problem, really, apparantly this has been disabled for some time due to a security issue).

There are posts as far back as January (2009) and maybe older about it.

But I see some recently joined members (for example one from September 2009, and I think I saw one from November) who have unique avatars.

If we... beg nicely? Is there some way to get an avatar put in?
(it's 100x100, PNG, 13 Kb)

Thanks (I'll give an admin a FREE trumble for the favor!)

EDIT: Make that 6 Kb... I just color-reduced it to 256 colors.

Why not use the in-built ones? There are a selection of ship graphics available... Seen my Python?

As you've discovered by now, there are forum policies in place concerning avatars.

Although, if you want to share how nice yours looks, how about posting a screen-shot of it?

The main policy concerning avatars is that I’m to lazy to keep turning them on and off. :-/

'tis okay. No biggie. I won't whine. I'll skulk a little, in a dark corner someplace, some forsaken TL 1 Anarchy where the pilots fly ships that are pathetic rusted pieces of junk, that use poorly recrafted metal garbage cans for making spare parts.

WOE is me! WOE is me!

Why not just use the image within your signature?

All I have ever used for image hosting is Flickr... I've never used photobucket before... can someone "lead me by the hand" so to speak; tell me of a (free, no-hassle) image hosting place that can be direct-linked to the image from within the forum? (and as an experiment... I am curious... I will post the un-color-reduced 100x100 PNG, and the smaller color reduced 100x100 PNG to see if there is a severe difference in a browser... but they LOOK the same in my paint application).

Umm... Yeah - Photobucket. :P From the main page with all your images, click on the image you want to link to. This will open a second page. On the left is a section called "Share This Image". Second field down is "Direct Link". You should be able to figure it out from there. :P

Flickr works fine.

To illustrate this I am using Flickr to host the image I've just placed in my sig!

Test...
EDIT: Okay test successful. That would be my avatar. To make it easier on bandwidth, I color-reduced it from 16M to 256 colors. Only 6 Kb.
