how do you save game

Hi all. Can someone tell me what i have to do to save my game.

When i pause the game and press F2, the quick save, load commander and save commader will not select (they are grayed out). What am i missing.

Also the waypoints in front of the space stations are an excellent idea. I dont need a docking computer with these. Nice one to whoever thought of this

You can only save (and load) games when docked at a main system station. There's no saving in-flight, though Frame (a member of this board) has created a 'save anywere' oxp to allow players to save when docked somewhere else. Frame's save anywere is still a work in progress, so your mileage may vary.

you need to save in a station, its the only place I know that you can save, if you have extensions, that add more stations, saving is diabled if you dock in them, so you can only save in Oolite's main station that orbits each planet

Thanks guys. I could not find the save option as i thought it was in the pause game menu. I found it now. I have had about 6 kills and 300 credits lost because i did not know how to save. Just finding my feet again on this game.
