Repair Cloaking Device

Post by Cody »

I got into a nasty little fur-ball earlier; lots of damaged kit. (You should've seen the other guys).

No problem fixing most items, but I cannot seem to get my Cloaking Device repaired.
I even travelled half a chart to the only TL 15 in G5. No luck.

Is it an un-repairable item, or have I missed something (again).
I've tried searching the Wiki, the Oolite BB search (hopeless) and elsewhere. No joy.

I refuse to hack my save file; if I can't repair it, I'll do without (it's of dubious value, anyway).

Any thoughts?

And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Getting a shot-up cloaking device fixed can be an effort in futility. It's an experimental gadget, so not many shipyard techs know how to fix it.

That said, you can try a hacker's outpost - maybe you'll find a geek there bright enough to figure it out.
Or a Naval station. Sometimes their deckhands know something about it.
Or deploy a repairbot package and cross your fingers.

Thanks for the tips, Cmdr Wyvern, but aren't they all OXP solutions?

Yup, I'm afraid so.

Failing all of the above, you're left with hacking the savegame. Them's the breaks, sorry.

Or help out the Aquarian Shipbuilding Corporation with a little problem they are having in Aquatics OXP. Their R&D department may be able to help you, if they're inclined to return a favour...

Thanks, Thargoid.

I'll bear that in mind when I get to try a few OXP's, maybe in a ship year or so.
RH is first on my list.

Yeah, the Hackers can help you as well. They're kind of specialized in high tech experimental things, you know.

This little problem, though minor, is puzzling and a little irksome.

The Cloaking Device: a native piece of equipment, awarded by a native mission.
If damaged, surely it should be fixable in the normal game. An OXP should not be needed.

I’ve done a quick survey of all the TL15 systems and none offer a repair option.

AFAIK it has a much higher TL and thus it's really a big problem.

However, earth with it's puny TL has a solution that's called a TextEditor. It comes in many flavors for many different operating systems. It can read a commanders file and then be used to remove _DAMAGED behind the equipment part in question, although I would guess that most pilots kill themselves if the cloak does break ;)
