What's the face limit on a ship model? I have a bad habit of making things too complicated.

I'm quite sure the limit has gone up considerably for 1.73.4.
If I were in you I'd export it and see if it shows up in the demoships (the bunch of ships shown right at the beginning of Oolite - press 'N' then right arrow....
Use one of Griff single ship oxps as a template, so you can see how to add your new model to the demo ships.

it used to be 512 , somewhere along the test releases it was raised to 800
you can however use sub-entities to your benefit.
1 you can get above the face limits
2 you can take advantage of level of detailing also known as LOD, whereby Oolite will not draw the sub-entities when out of some pr model calculated visible range.

1.68 and earlier: 512.
1.69–1.72.x: 800.
1.73–: how much memory you got?
