A couple of noob questions
Hi,
First of all I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making a version of Elite that is actually better than the original without losing the spirit of the game. I have been playing for a short while and I have managed to get a decent amount of equipment for my Cobra MkIII and am close to getting an average rating.
I have a couple of questions:
First of all, what would happen if I were to engage in piracy and destroy a clean ship, and then pick up the escape capsule from that ship and take it to the station? Would I get the insurance reward, or would I become an offender (seeing as I was transporting the only witness to my crime)?
Second question is with regard to the cargo contracts that are available on stations. Most of the cargo contracts seem to be for over 100 tonnes of cargo, which is far too much for the Cobra even with the extended cargo bay. Are there ever any cargos less that 35t in any of the stations, or do I need to just save up and buy a bigger ship? I am torn between saving for something like a Boa, or for keeping the Cobra and saving for sheild enhancements.

As long as no police recorded the deed, it's your word against theirs, and is it your fault that your ship looked a bit like the pirate you saw fleeing the scene of the crime?
I'm afraid you'll have to get a boa for cargo contracts. (Unless you have the UPS oxp installed, with that you might be offered smaller delivery contracts). It does make for an interesting change of pace, but I would make a couple of backups of the present cobbie save games before switching careers!
PS: and welcome to the boards - the friendliest this side of Riedquat, I'm told.

Hi hugorune, and welcome to "the friendliest board this side of Riedquat!"™
For your first question, your legal status will not be affected unless a Galcop Viper witnesses your attack.. So yes, in your scenario you'd get the reward with no penalty attached..
For your second question, small cargo contracts are quite rare, but they can happen.. you may want to install the UPS Courier oxp, which can help you build a cargo hauling rep even though you can't get the big contracts.. you may be able to build your rep up to the point where you can get the really lucrative contracts (gemstones and precious metals) which don't require a large cargo hold.
Edit: darn.. Kaks beat me to it!

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Woohoo, new source of revenue (presumably I need to keep a lookout for the rozzers whilst performing the dirty deed).Kaks wrote:As long as no police recorded the deed, it's your word against theirs, and is it your fault that your ship looked a bit like the pirate you saw fleeing the scene of the crime?
Yes I was thinking of getting some cash together and then saving twice - once to keep the cobra and get enhanced sheilds, and the other to buy the boa and make some cash. I was thinking of getting to grips with the regular game before getting too involved in the OXP's (so far I have just tried Lave Academy).Kaks wrote:I'm afraid you'll have to get a boa for cargo contracts. Thanks for the quick

It's up to you of course since it's your Ooniverse, but I would certainly look at the flavor OXPs: Dictators, Commies, Anarchies. And also the eye candy stuff.
It's all on the WIKI

@hugorune,
You could go ahead and trade in your Cobby for a Boa. With the Boa's vast hold, you'll make a lot of cr with just a few milk runs, enough to fully dress a Cobby with mula to spare. And since the Cobra is a very common ship - you can find at least one on sale just about anywhere - you can easily trade in the Boa for a Cobby any time you like.
@Cheyd,
Let's keep the ape porn to a minimum, ok? Please?

I am not ruling out the OXP's, I just don't want to go mad straight away. Maybe in a week or two when I get a bit better at combat I'll start having a look at a few.Hemlock wrote:It's up to you of course since it's your Ooniverse, but I would certainly look at the flavor OXPs: Dictators, Commies, Anarchies.
