audio problem

i use 1.72.2 on a mac. the problem is that sometimes the sound goes FUBAR at some unpredictable time for no apparent reason. what i hear from then on sounds like a square wave. constant pitch, constant volume, no variation. VERY unpleasant. the only way to stop this is to restart oolite.
