@Frame - this is the Firefly/Serenity approach - hi-tec central planets - frontier outer-worlds - it could work well!
Firarms should also go high in the outer worlds (because my brother tells me that were they are, The people are so poor that they have to use Bullet guns, rather than lasers.)
And also, you should get missions to deliver some cargo or some people to an in-system planet. Oh, and on the farthest Planet, there should be lots of reavers, or in oolite's case, Renagades, blocking the path.
No, tie dead people to the outside of your ship, DUH! Then put stuff that definitely isn't ketchup on too.
But, you don't have the time to do that if you just saw them, do you? And to do that, you would also have to deactivate your Radiation filter, without it frying you. Good to do if you have to fly through their main territory.
But if you are planning to go through reaver-land, then you make plans!
And don't forget, if you will be facing a big navy ambush, you fire at one of their ships, then witch-jump. And you also have to ty the dead bodies on at the planet. Then, Take off.

No witch-jump in the Firefly-Universe - that's the point, all the ships are sublight - fast but sublight - it's a horribly complicated planetary/stellar soup - that's why the outlying worlds are considered "Frontier" planets because they're not ideal for living planets...

Well, you know what happened after Mal or Jane (not how you spell his name, I know, but bear with me) Shot at a reaver ship, with, some, turret, probly made to fool the reavers, and then he went real fast, and all of the ships did that, and went the same speed, like a witch jump. I'm not sure how to explain this .

They overloaded Serenity's engines to go real fast - but still sublight....
