Oxp-station shipyards don`t seem to work?

Hi,

just noticed during testing that anytime I try to do F3-F3 to get into the shipyard of an oxp`ed in station, Oolite freezes and doesn`t come back.

Perhaps I am overlooking something, but can someone reproduce that or is this working on someone`s system?

I think this has started wit 1.72, but can`t be sure, and my OS is Windows Vista.

What station does your freeze happen in? I have just tried it with CaptKev's Dodo stations and Griff's Trade Outpost and both shipyards work fine.

Can you give exact steps to reproduce?

The station I`m most sure about is the Realistic Shipyards SIRFYard. I can dock whereever I spawn it, the F3 equipment section opens fine, no problem, but when I attempt to enter the F3-F3 shipyard the game hangs itself.

I am off to an appointment now, will test more. If you can repeat this (or, indeed, if this works on your system) please let me know.

Entirely possible I overlooked something, but if, did so for an hour :?

Any errors in Latest.log when you launch Oolite with Shift pressed?

I cannot download RS to check what is going on with it. I am afraid you will have to provide a stand-alone, minimal case scenario for reproducing the freeze.

Let's assume the main problem is the hang when opening the F3-F3-screen. My wild guess would be a bug in one (or more) of the ships which are to be displayed for sale there, probably related to the hang produced by Astromines, which produce a similar hang in the shipyard.

You don't have by any chance Astromines for sale on the SIRFYard?

The strange thing is, any main station F3-F3 shipyards work as intended. It`s only oxp stations that have a problem suddenly.

Do shipyards on oxp stations work on anyone`s system? Has anyone actually looked since 1.72 came out?

There are no other ships to appear on an oxp shipyard than on a main station shipyard, at least with RS.

No, to be serious, they don`t, but I have Commies installed and there are astromines in my game, but the only crashes I had since 1.72 (including with my fledgling Oolite Shipyards Extension BETA in) were with Trident Down.

I had an idea once about buyable stations for players - i.e., you buy an astromine on the equipment screen, and with the condition that you have this equipment the mine gets actually spawned in a specific place and sometimes you get an income sent over from it ... but nothing like that implemented (yet).

Will make further attempts to solve the mystery when I find the time :(

Oh, to answer another question: I have sucessfully visited shipyards in Hacker Outposts in 1.72. (Although--after the new release, of course--I am suddenly not sure anymore whether I actually want them to have shipyards. Oh boy! :? )

I think Hacker Outposts should definitely have shipyards! Even more expensive hardware to be sold by the hackers with nearly all the licenses on and as good as complete functionality :twisted:

Havent hit any problems with Shipyards in Space Bars on 1.72 without RS installed. My suspsion is therefore that its a problem with a player ship from RS which is more likley (due to high tech level requirement) to be added to the list of ships at your special station than others. So it seems the Station is the problem when actually its just that the bug will always hit there, but not at the main station in the same system where the tech level is lower. A broken ship can cause this hang.

@Lestradae: The way to work out bugs in these cases is to start from the top of the log. Find the first occurence of error. In your case, that would be the blade.oxp. The parser autocorrects it in this case, but still there is something wrong there that needs fixing. You will have to find out what it is and fix. Then you move on to the next error, which is in Dictators.oxp. You fix it and proceed. Same for typhoon.oxp. Once you have a log completely clear of parse errors, then you can try to reproduce the freeze. The point here is that you can not work out a bug properly when there are other bugs interfering,

Alternatively, you need the previously mentioned minimal case scenario. Find one OXP station that gives you the problem and use that OXP only to test.

Personally, I prefer the first solution, because you will be fixing existing bugs while working your way through.

More weirdety.

Tried the SIRFYard stations with three equivalent tech level settings:

1) 15 (16 in-game): Game hangs itself at F3-F3 shipyard.

2) 13 (14 in-game): Game hangs itself at F3-F3 shipyard, and in the F3 equipment items list a singular item shows up that should be there from TL 16 (in-game) onwards ... ???

3) 8 (9 in-game): Both F3 equipment and F3-F3 shipyards screen work flawlessly. :shock:

I will make a test AddOns folder with only OSE in and test with that - errors that show up can then only pertain from my oxp alone.

Kind of self-explaining, did that already in the past when trying to find errors, but d`uh.

I blame an early onset of Altzheimers. Perhaps I should also start looking for a nursy. A young, slim, cute one.

Most of your logs are just warnings it won't work with 1.73 anymore. No real problem with 1.72. I would look at the thing with an ERROR:

The AI command decreaseAlertLevel is not in ships but in stations. For some reason this ship is not seen as a station and hence the command is not recognised. I don't know if this is the same station you have problems with, but there is definitely something missing in the definition in the shipData.plist.
