Partial Solution to Sticky Messages - NoMessages.OXP

Post by LittleBear »

This quick hack provides a partial solution to the sticky messages bug, in that it turns them off (if they ain't there they can't stick!). The OXP just has an alternate descriptions file where the messages for "Incoming Missile", "Cargo Scooped" etc are left blank. If you install it in AddOns then the Messages are turned off. Remove it and they're back on again. Communications hails are not effected by the OXP, the trick of switching views will clear them.

You may want to have the Custom Sounds OXP installed, so that you still get an audible message warning you of alarming events (such as an Incoming Missile).

We believe we have fixed the sticky messages for 1.71. It is difficult to check, because the bug seems to occur only on certain video card / system combinations and in most of the cases it is very rare. But once 1.71 is out, we will soon know.

If the bug fix doesn't do it, then this could be a quite nice alternative.

Which surely is good news for Doc Nil, who was especially buggered about it. Perhaps someone should PM him and specifically ask him to test out 1.71.

My son was playing 1.65 on Windows and he got sticky messages that would not go away. He started flipping views while in flight and eventually they went away. I'm not sure how exactly.
