New kid in the block.
Hello everyone! I'm new to Oolite, running it on Linux. I played the 3 Elite games in my PC and all I can say for now is that Oolite is great.

Hi Valsum
Welcome to Oolite.
Don't be shy to ask any questions you have.
Off course the answer may already be here on the BB or on the Oolite wiki.
Have fun

I discovered Oolite -- just recently -- through a weird route:
I was reading a "COMPUTE!" magazine from 1983, and a columnist was praising the BBC Micro. I decided to check Wikipedia to find out more about that computer. The BBC Micro article mentions Elite a few times, so I checked out the Elite article.
I've always been fascinated by procedurally-generated maps & worlds, so once I hit that information I was intrigued. I downloaded Oolite (referenced in the Elite article), enjoyed it, and came here to get more information about OXPs.

That's actually a good question to ask everyone who frequent these boards.TGHC wrote:how did you find out about Oolite as a matter of interest?
How did everyone find Oolite originally?
I personally found it while reading episode 39 of Selezen's excellent Battle Barge webcomic, thought "Damn, it's Elite! In glorious Technicolour!" and through that I found this forum......

I found out about Oolite from the Wikipedia page about "Elite (video game)", i think i was searching the internet trying to find help on getting an emulated Archimedes version working, and when it did, i really hated the mouse control and couldn't get it to save any games, when i first loaded up oolite and the spinning cobra came up on the screen i ditched the emulator, all the faffing about was too much.

I found Oolite on Wikipedia too. I was actually looking for a remake of either Elite or Frontier to waste a little spare time on
I hardly got any sleep the following two weeks - and then I discovered the OXPs and this BB

I search the web for stuff on Elite every year or so. I found Elite TNK and Oolite about the same time 6 months or so ago. I played TNK for a while, got the source and changed a few things and then once I'd got to the long trawl from Deadly to Elite I thought I'd try Oolite.
I got to ELITE on a BBC Emulator running Elite on the PC during my last term at university and got to at least dangerous on BBC B tape elite, amiga frontier and amiga first encounters.

I too found Oolite mentioned on the Elite section of Wikipedia. I was out for a bit of nostalgia having been Elite on the BBC version and I was pretty sure the original would be freeware by now. Imagine my suprise when I found that dedicated people such as your fine selves had been very busy updating it and adding OXPs!Dr. Nil wrote:I found Oolite on Wikipedia too.
