How could I get them?? Is there such a Version??? Mac??? OMG! %-)

And this Hud!?

The planets appear to be from the Textured Planets branch of Oolite, which is a PC-only branch (another exe instead of the original one). Should be pretty easy to find in the PC-part of the board.

But, unfortunately, not for Mac and Linux.

Oh, and with the new program developments it seems to become deprecated.

For the HUD I'm not sure. Try searching for "HUD" on the board. There are quite some HUDs around, usually accompanied by one or more threads.

Actually, I think those planets were from Giles own code which I don't think he got round to finishing - and that was on the Mac. As for the HUD layout I think that's for the Cobra Mk 2. So you'll have to buy one of them to get it. (It's with the Aegidian's Specials OXP available here - http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP)

...errr... ...those are how the planets appear on a Mac, even with no oxp's loaded, if you pause the game, and press T to turn on the procedural textures!

It does slow the game down when entering each system, and when using F7 to examine a planet on the mapping screens, but if you've got a reasonably powerful Mac* it's worth it for the beautiful look of the planets as you approach them.

I'm just testing the 1.68 exe for Win32 and it seems Giles' texturing code works there too, if you have the hardware (which I finally do now work has given me a new laptop).

“The hardware”? In their current forms, the textured planets are exactly that – the game dynamically generates a texture. Giles was working on a shader-based version, but that hasn’t seen the light of day.

The shader-enabled Chopped Cobra is not publically available (but there is a version of the “dream team” cobra. The Freaky Thargoids are also available. (Incidentally, I updated that one yesterday.)

UUuhh great. But it doesnt work. Which verison of Oolite?
In 1.65 if I Pause the Game and press shift t nothing happens. I got a 2.1 G5.

Please tell me! :)))

Edit: ok it works in 1.68 test version! with (t) during Pause. Its DAMN GREAT!!! Thank you all! And it works with some OXPs installed so far.

I wonder how cool this game would have get if Giles could have go on :/
Is this communitiy strong enough to built on in that way?

To generate textures on the fly is the exact philosophy of the orginal Elite. So cool Giles!

And did you report the problem? If not, how else do you expect it to be noticed and fixed?

P for Pause and then T whilst paused to turn on the new planets.

Nothing happens right away. You have to make a hyperspace jump (next time Oolite redraws it). Once on they stay on and every planet is drawn this way. Looks really cool! 8)

Yep I reported that 1.67 was jamming. I also noted that there were no further replies to the report.... Thus concluding that it was ignored...
Hoping that 1.68 will be better though don't know where to download and try? I presume Berilos but I'm hanging round for a URL :!:

Sorry, I assumed the textured planets were done in a shader because everything was going that way, and didn't bother to check one way or the other.
