More stateliness in equipment, please?

Post by ecmanaut »

The identification system forgets its activation state when hyperjumping and galaxy jumping, visiting a station, and possibly in several other situations where this has not been motivated by turning on some other mode (i e targeting missiles). This leads to lots and lots of clicking on r to get back into the mode I am in.

The same applies to the "next compass mode" key binding; I always want it set for "station" mode, and it always reverts to "planet" mode whenever we enter a system (from hyperspace or a station).

Regarding the identification system, ideally I would never have to hit r, unless I was currently targeting one object and wanted to target another or change into a non-targeting mode (and then again when I want to target something again).

As to the Ident computer, I've only experienced it deactivating after docking at a station and saving, never between jumps. Though I do find it irritating when it turns off after firing a missile :x
What, just because I've fired a single missile, it means that I won't need to target another hostile? Yeesh!

With the Advanced Space Compass, it can't detect the station from the Witchpoint, so it defaults to the planet (as though you can't actually see it! ). I think defaulting to the Navigation beacon (if it hasn't been destroyed) would make it easier. Many a time I've spent too long scrolling through the options of the ASC only to get mass-locked just as I 'j' drive in-system.
