Sorry if I repeat myself. I don't know if this is a problematic subject with unknown undercurrents or if I've offended someone.
I don't ever have a flight without trouble with OSD messages sticking across my sights. I don't have a combat without at some point having to switch frantically between port and starboard views to have one or more sticky OSD messages scroll away from obscuring the sights for my front laser.
I really think that the message system should be a part of the customizable HUD. Would you want to rely on a technology which has a message about where you arrived with your last hyperjump or invitation from a spacecab to obscure your sights when trying to defend your life?
If the sticky messages bug can't be eliminated, and it's too much work to implement it as a part of the custom HUD wouldn't it then be possible to allow players to set the max number of lines in the OSD, so I can keep the sticky messages from scrolling all the way up to my sights.
PS a perhaps silly sidenote - how about a laser laser sight which reflects from ships when they're in the line of fire?

Re: OSD messages as part of HUD
This can be achieved by the reticule changing colour when the target is in the crosshairs, as in Xelite, and has been discussed previously. It is very useful for longrange shooting, and conserving laser temperature, but IIRC got the thumbs down from the main developers, which is a shame.Dr.-SPACE-Nil wrote:PS a perhaps silly sidenote - how about a laser laser sight which reflects from ships when they're in the line of fire?
