Cloak and upgrade

I've recently attained Competent status. And the military came asking for help. I understand that in this mission, you can obtain a cloaking device.

If I agree to help, and get the cloak, but then upgrade to a nicer ship, will the cloak go with me? Or will it be gone forever?

In answer to your question, yes the cloaking device should transfer when you buy a new ship. However... The military isn't involved with the cloaking device mission. You're about to embark on a different one. :D
It is generally inadvisable to eject over the target you just bombed.

Hit F5 or 5 twice and it will show your mission status
