Explosion sounds

Post by themacman »

do the new explosion sounds only happen with bigger objects because I've been playing 1.65 for a while and haven't heard any of the new explosions. I like the new explosions, but it took me a while to realize what was happening. Also like the new AI.

In space no one can hear you scream... Or explode...
The act of talking b*ll*cks whilst waving one's arms about wildly is referred to as testiculation.

“Many enhancements to the graphics, explosions and data screens.” <— does not refer to the sound of the explosions. :-)

In space, everyone can hear you scream... if you've got a RemLok survival mask!

Um, no, sorry- sound requires a medium. In the vacuum of space, there is no medium. The reason you hear collisions/laserfire is that you ship's hull and the cockpit air are a medium, and they carry the vibration.
There is something deeply, deeply wrong with me, and I intend to find out what it is, as soon as I'm done burning this cat.

mm'yes you see Drew near exactly quoted a line from the motherstory of Elite, The Dark Wheel.

ok, that makes much more sense, thx and of course there's no sound in space, but most things related to space cheat on that rule, an obvious example would be Star Wars.

Well spotted Murgh and fair do's Kriken, you're right of course.

I hadn't noticed that explosions were silent actually; a nice, accurate touch.

I particularly like a distant explosions you occasionally see too, excellent plot device!

Cheers,

Drew.

That is no plot device! It is actual combat between NPCs.
Just J-jump yourself near and observe the laserfire.

Asteroid miners make nice lightshows too, BTW.

I haven't seen any asteroid miners yet, must keep an eye out for them.

Miners shouldn't be too hard to find, just locate an astroidbelt and wait. ;)

Chances improve when you install the rockhermit.oxp and keep to the spacelanes when flying towards the planet.
many planets have asteroid belts around their planet (strangely not around their suns, must be because of Qbombs destroying moons)
Some of these belts have a hermit in the middle. he will launch a miner if all is quiet and these will proceed to atack asteroids and scoop up their mineral debris.

Where is rockhermit.oxp? I couldn't find it on Oosat2.

Q-bombs destroying moons? Perish the thought!

Drew.

Ah...sorry. Rockhermits have been included in the game as standard feature for a long time now.
I was confused with pirate-coves.oxp. (but those don't launch miners)
