Cloaking Device Mission Native

I would like to thank everyone invoved in this website. Great Work!
Need just a little help. The cloaking device mission....how is it triggered? I am in gal-5 with about 2000 kills. I have been flying around for 2 days with no mission. Do you need to be Deadly? Need X amount of Cash? PLEASE HELP.

Well, according to the Oolite Wiki mission details you only need to be in Galaxy 5 so I'll have to leave it to some one else to suggest an answer.

damaged cloaking device
Once damaged, can it be repaired?

The death of this special asp should have spawned "An unusual cargo canister". If you scooped that cargo canister you would have got the cloaking device. Unfortunatley, you will now never meet that asp again (Giles's code will have set the Cloaking Device Mission to COMPLETE as you killed the cloaked asp, so it will not appear again). If you missed your chance you won't have another chance to scoop the cloak!
You can get round this by replaying the mission, but you will need to edit your save file!
Open your save file with a text-editor (eg Notepad if you use windows):-
Select find and type in "mission_cloak"
The editor will take you to some code that says :-
<key>mission_cloak</key> <string>COMPLETE</string>
Delete all of this, then exit and save.
This will allow you to re-do the Cloaking Device Mission and this time make sure you grab the Cloak!
Or, if you have a commander saved at a position before you killed the Asp, load it up and re-do the mission. I don't think this is cheating as you will get the cloak honestly, but it allows you the chance to re-play the mission.
EDIT: Don't worry, I made the same mistake. I hung out in G5 for ages and never saw the special asp. It was only when scripting my Assassins.oxp (which involes disabling the cloak a certain times and reabling it at others, that I realised I'd killed the asp with an energy bomb at some point and so had completed the cloaking device mission without actually getting the cloak!)
Giles, when you do the next version, could you maybe put in some code that does a check for Equipment EQ_CLOAKING_DEVICE. If a none is returned then sets the cloaking mission back to undefined? That would give the player another chance to get the cloak if he killed the asp without realising it, but didn't grab the cloak. Easy to do with Q-mines and E-bombs!

It's a one-shot, no-second-chances deal, you either get the cloak or you don't. It's not like you die if you don't get it!

The commander that I play the game with does not have the cloak, as I missed it! But I had to "cheat" and give the commander that I'm testing the Assassins.oxp with the cloak so I could test the code I was using for the enable cloak / disable cloak!
