looking for minimalist HUD

Post by Lone_Wolf »

Currently I use a lightly tweaked version of Milhud 4 .

I am a (forward) laser guy and rarely use missiles/pylon mounted stuff . I don't need sniper sight, telescope or similar.

The things I like most are that it uses the whole screen width and focuses on space compass, scanner and crosshairs .
(last 3 are/feel much bigger then in the standard hud) .

Is there a HUD designed after 2015 that could replace milhud ?

I use Xenon HUD as it has a nice transparent uncluttered feel. Clear HUD is also a good one for a minimalist.

Which have you seen?

[EliteWiki] Dangerous HUD has some very nice touches.

Note: Gsagostinho believes in windows rather than viewscreens - you will notice that the 4 views on Dangerous HUD reflect this.

Checking wiki pages Xenon HUD looks like it could work, dangeroushud colour schemes look ... weird.

I do remember ClearHUD, and disagree with one of its design choices :
Messages and log windows integrated in the dashboard

Think I'll remove milhud for testing and install hudselector .

Agreed - but give it a stab anyways. Lots of interesting tweaks - pulsating scanner, new sounds, differentiated 4 views, et cetera et cetera. It's well worthwhile having a look and just noting the points which interest you!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Xenon & dangerous are both good huds, unfortunately I realised my brain doesn't handle anything extra around crosshairs well.

This is probably one of the reasons I chose milhud in the past.

Guess I'll look at milhud refit next.

Added
Milhud refit has several issues, milhud 4000 has minor issues.
I posted in the threads for those oxpx

Looked a bit deeper into mildhud refit, milhud 4000, hud.plist and hud selector.

The simplest approach to get what I want seems to be to make milhud 4 compabitle with hud selector and add a few MFDs (doubt I'll need more then 2 or 3) .

Depends on your game.

I find many of the HUDs invaluable - but that is partly down to my useless combat skills. And since I play with Smugglers, I find Useful MFDs invaluable for (i) listing my cargo at Main Station values and then the Solar Flux rating for Stranger's World. And then Telescope and the two [EliteWiki] Target System Plugins.

There is a full listing at [EliteWiki] MFD - unless Phkb has added a couple more!
