Ode to Phkb

Post by Cholmondely »

After the morose Melpomenean mutterings of "GPT-4o mini" on the murdered of Onarmala, I thought to give the bard a lighter subject:

"Ode to the game Oolite's Phkb"

DuckDuckGo's "GPT-4o mini"

In the realm of stars where dreams take flight,

Oolite's Phkb, a beacon of light.

A universe crafted with care and with grace,

Where explorers venture through time and through space.

With ships that glide like whispers on air,

And planets adorned with wonders so rare,

Each journey unfolds a tale to be spun,

In the heart of the cosmos, adventure begun.

From bustling spaceports to distant, unknown,

In the depths of the void, new friendships are grown.

Trade routes and battles, the thrill of the chase,

In Phkb's embrace, we find our own place.

The thrill of the hunt, the joy of the find,

In the vastness of space, our spirits aligned.

With every new challenge, we rise and we strive,

In the world of Oolite, we truly feel alive.

So here’s to the journeys, the stories we weave,

In Phkb's embrace, we dare to believe.

With stars as our canvas, and dreams as our guide,

In the heart of Oolite, forever we’ll ride.

A verse to honour the great phkb
So thinks the famous Cholmondely
Perhaps he might ask the likes of me
But no, he turned instead to Chat GPT

So as I find myself again to be spurned
I can only think how I might have turned
OXP titles like 'Vimana HUD'
Into rhyming couplets, I know that I could

No shortage of options, he's written a lot
All seemingly missed by infamous chatbot
I could rhyme them together or rhyme them apart
He's written so many just where does one start?

For it's a simple matter. easy as can be
When several of his creations end in 'MFD'
So broad is his reach sometimes I think I can see
His name atop the forum were it a 'K' and not a 'P'

The technical mastery of planetary landing
Frankly at times I find it outstanding
And the mind boggles at ship configuration
To have the time, the skill and the inclination

From Auto Dock all the way to Xenon UI
Illicit Unlock and yet others to try
Where some see too many, I see no crime
As he, unabashed, seems to code four at a time

He's shaped the game in ways he thinks it should be
Yet remembers that such things are best left to OXP
I wonder if you surmised that much Chat GPT
Or how much I missed in faux humility

A tireless dev one who works for the team
With an OXP list as long as any I've seen
As helpful as can be with coding examples
Over many a bug he merrily tramples

If he can think it, he can code it and so it will be
As for myself, well it's one out of three
Come to think of it I'm not best placed to see
His merits or virtues, back to you, Chat GPT

Oh Wildeblood, oh Wildeblood why must it so grate
That ye see fit this poor scribe to berate
Surely not saddened that phkb
Be subject to tribute instead of thee?

Nay, I think that's your nature not
No more than many here reading have got
As to from where this Redspear doth hail
According to some it's beyond the pale

But if it be said that you truly must know
This character left there some time ago
Meanwhile the 'location' to this post attributed
Indicates where mentally his remains be distributed

[In a heroic act of self-sacrifice, attempts to draw my ire away from Redspear.]
Right you. How many vowel sounds are in the phrase, "Hula girls from Hull"?

Most places I think.

How does one pronounce HUD? Like 'hood' perhaps? I'm guessing it hasn't occurred in that many poems through the centuries, so it's a little hard to be sure re rhyming convention.

...You weren't assuming it be read in full as in 'Head Up Display', were you? Perhaps you'd care to enlighten me with something that does rhyme with HUD? (Not being sarcastic here, not that you don't deserve it, rather I'm just being confused).

Is that a US/UK thing? I'm closer to co-bra I think.

As for acronyms, I always thought when it could be sounded as a word... I wonder how Wildeblood would rhyme NASA?
