Star Cops

Post by ffutures »

Someone reminded me of the old BBC series Star Cops, a 1997 TV series set in the far future of 2027 AD with colonies on the Moon and Mars. It turns out that the whole series is on Youtube

As I recall it there are some fun mysteries in there and some good writing.

SORRY - 1987, not 97.

It's amazing how often people have considered 40 years into the Future to be sufficient time for whatever technological development their vision of the Future requires. Interplanetary colonization - 40 years. AI - 40 years. Genetic engineering - 40 years. Time-travel - 40 years. Interstellar travel - 40 years. Fusion power -

Have you seen Space Precinct. I just thought about this one when I read the title of this post. I also think of this when playing Elite as if Elite (Or Oolite...) became an television series of it's own.

It's seems to have that lack of seriousness or just humor that I found inherent in this game. If you ignore that lack of Ophidian Class ships, those rotating orbital stations, Witch-Space-Travel and Thargoids...

Every episode here...

Yes, I saw a few episodes - definitely silly, but occasionally went into quite hard SF ideas. Note that it's supposedly set in 2040, which suggests imminent first contact to get to this setting in the next 15 years!

Wow...

Hey, I don't suppose you ever watched Red-Dwarf. It's really silly, being a sci-fi sitcom. However at least it's British...

I saw a few of the early episodes (since it was a BBC show and I'm a Brit) but I was never a huge fan for some reason. I just wasn't keen on the characters.

There is an American version of Red Dwarf, (If that means anything, but I guess it's all the same really...) but not sure how far they took that one...
