Is the equipment purchase list sorted, or sortable?

My naive eyes can't tell if the purchasable equipment list at stations is sorted in any meaningful way.

Meaningful? <chortles> Almost certainly sorted, but in some arcane fashion which is beyond my ken!

I've always felt that the order was based on the TL at which one can purchase the item. But there may well be other factors involved (the alphabetical order of the middle name of the mother-in-law of the manufacturer seems especially critical)!
