Galactic Differentials

Post by Cholmondely »

Working on the Geography page in the wiki.

Is this a fair summary?

=== Galactic Differences ===
I find the eight galaxies have a very different feel to them.
1 - mostly well connected, but you've got that large bit at 5 o'clock which is almost a separate bit.
2 - lots of bottlenecks. Most of the Eight's double bottlenecks.
3 - similar to 1 in terms of general connectivity, but with that odd disconnection across a lot of the north edge.
4 - odd government types: only four of the eight used, which gives it a lot of Anarchy bottlenecks, especially if travelling east/west.
5 - feels very core+frontier, in a way, with oddities like the Steel Halo or Tetiri Conclave, or the thin route from S to SE
6 - this one just makes me uneasy. I don't know why.
7 - the Great Rift, but even without that divided into two halves with narrow bottleneck routes between them
8 - Oresrati, of course, but also very well connected in terms of routes to reach various points.

# Galaxy 1

# Galaxy 2
- Academies of Galaxy 2
- Ionics adds special ships and a war!
# Galaxy 3
- Academies of Galaxy 3
- Aquatics OXP introduces special ships, mission and a station to this galaxy.
# Galaxy 4
- Academies of Galaxy 4
- The missions set in this galaxy introduce a number of very different scenarios flavouring it: Deposed, Love Cats & Trident Down.
# Galaxy 5
- Academies of Galaxy 5
- Resistance Commander gives you a role in an invasion.
- Coyote's Run introduces a number of galaxy 5 specialities.
# Galaxy 6
- Academies of Galaxy 6
- Vortex is broken ... sorry!
# Galaxy 7
- Academies of Galaxy 7
- The Assassins Guild OXP introduces special ships, missions & planet descriptions to this galaxy.
# Galaxy 8
- Academies of Galaxy 8

Famous Planets adds colour to many of the systems of Galaxies 1, 2 & 8 (if you look at your F7 page!).

There are also the Shipsets - you can choose different shipsets for the different galaxies to give a very different look to each of them. Ditto with Orbital stations (more awkward, but doable).

Have I missed anything?

Damn it, that Wiki page just sucked me down the long ago rabbit hole of the zero-distance doubles.
I spent a lot of time in zero-distance doubles, and Kaks put a lot of work into getting them right.

Might be worth mentioning that a few system names crop up twice, in different octants.
Can't recall them all, but Xeer (G1 and G7) and Laquused (G4 and G5) are two of them.

Another duplicate system name is Inzaan, but they're both in G8.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

And a correction: the once unreachable worlds across the Great Rift in G7 can now be reached (without OXP assistance).
As far as I know, all the other unreachable worlds require OXP assistance and/or tinkering.
