Once the Advances Space Compass is purchased it also tracks beacons and the local star.
Throw a few oxps into the mix however and it's tracking moons, multiple planets and multiple stations making cycling trough it a bit annoying. One of the reasons that Additional Planets rarely produces extra planets with their own moons is due to avoiding such 'compass clutter'.
So, a few possibilities.
1 - A Second Compass.
- Compass 1: Basic Navigation
Main planet and station, system star - witch point and main station beacons - Compass 2: Advanced Navigation
Moons, extra planets, extra stations etc
2 - Compass Modes
- Mode 1: Basic Navigation
(as above) - Mode 2: Planetary Bodies
Planets and moons only - Mode 3: Stations
Dockable stations and/or their beacons
The second option has the benefit of making sense even in the complete absence of oxps (mode 2 effectively switches to mode 3 once the player is close enough).
3 - Make the ASC Primable Equipment
Compass clutter might seem unavoidable in a busy system (oxp-wise) but even if one could simply deactivate some of the ASC function then the compass could be a little more user friendly.
An ASC 'basic mode' that included the standard compass targets plus the local star.
Even without oxps, the 'advanced mode' could then add the main station and two beacons.
Basic mode would still offer a slight improvement over the ship's default compass (i.e. the inclusion of the star).
In terms of target selection, the Advanced Space Compass might appear to be a bit of a misnomer.
