Boa Clipper Pirate

Post by ffutures »

Just ran into my first Boa Clipper pirate. I lasted about 30 seconds. That is one tough bastard.

:shock:
That's strange, because there isn't one. There is only one NPC version, which appears as a trader or trader-courier. I didn't think that this was an appropriate ship for a pirate role - new design and expensive rather than the old rustbuckets you'd normally encounter. So I don't know where the pirate came from.
Spec-wise it is largely the same as the Boa Class Cruiser so yes, it would be a tough nut to crack if it was well equipped. Thinking about it, the BCC is now cast as a pirate occasionally in the core game I believe - it wasn't one of these you came across, was it?

The Boa can indeed be a pirate in the core game, heavily-armed and usually accompanied by a dozen or so fighters - serious trouble!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Pretty sure it was ID'd as a clipper, but things were a bit busy so I may have read it wrong. There were certainly a lot of other ships around, I was taking heavy damage and weaving through the formation and didn't even realise what it was until I was practically on top of it.

I haven't run into another Boa Clippper pirate as yet, but here's a Python Clipper that jumped me a few minutes ago.

Is that supposed to happen?

Yes, but only very rarely. Having just checked it seems I gave the Python Clipper a very low probability as a pirate_light_freighter. You shouldn't see Boa Clipper pirates though as they just have trader and trader-courier roles.

No, just trader and trader-courier.

Maybe it was a Boa Cruiser or Python Clipper and I got it wrong.

Yea.
I've had Boa's act as pirate, well more like extended hold for pirate group. But very happy to shoot me when I get half the gang.
A little laser persuasion usually gets a pay off.

I've learned that nothing should be unexpected in Oolite, but still manages to do just that. :lol:

So I should do:

Code: Select all

this.startUp = function() {
    player.ship.launch();
    player.ship.explode();
}
:wink:
