Shameless tactic against the Thargoids

Today I have been practising battles against the Thargoids by forcing miss-jumps. My first attempts were gigantic failures of course, but then I came up with a shameless tactic against them which works very well for me:

- since I was forcing the miss-jumps myself, I selected a very close system so to ensure I had extra fuel to use with my witch fuel injectors and still jump back to some nearby system afterwards
- also, I have installed the military laser both in front and on the back of my ship
- as soon as the battle starts I apply full throttle and use the fuel injectors to get quite far from those ships (more than 20 km) and then using my back lasers I start to snipe them one by one (since they are quite large, this isn't too difficult)
- when those lasers overheat, I stop the ship, turn backwards and use my front lasers. This also will give time to my back shields to restore a bit
- as soon as the Thargoids get too close to comfort, I turn back, use fuel injectors to get away while snipping them with the back laser
- repeat the process until you are done!

Shameless, but effective ;)

Works OK so long as your fuel injectors don't get damaged and the Thargoids don't get anything in front of you. But you probably wouldn't want to try it against some of the optional extra Thargoids such as the Thargon Battlecruiser, they can soak up a hell of a lot of damage and usually have fast escorts.

That's true, of course. But I myself was always attacked from one side only by the Thargoids and so they never got in front of me.

I may give that a try ;)

Thing is, unless you're very lucky, eventually you will get caught in IS without enough fuel for the injectors.
Then you will need some method of taking them on while they're buzzing all around you like angry hornets!

It's only happened to me once, but it's possible to have two successive misjumps, especially if your ship needs maintenance.

an interesting tactic truly.... for a gentleman spacer.

My tactic is for homicidal but functional misanthropic spacers: take an energy bomb with you, suck them in, then BANG and pick up the pieces left, if any and then jump back out. This also works great anywhere else. BWAhhhhhhhaaaahhhh.

Many have tried and that many have failed... you have seen my screenshots where the space is full of those who want a piece of me.

<grinning back>

<chortles> In some ways, it's a shame that I'm strictly Solo in that other universe, amigo... <grins wolfishly>

<howls> A QCM might be more entertaining!

I'm still running my experiment - how long can I survive without trading or farming (of any sort).
Only two kills so far - evasion is my way, and Ironmouse is pretty damn good at that!
