What game are you playing?

Post by Marte »

...Or, more accurately: what videogame are you plaing beyond "Oolite" (and, may be, "Elite: Dangerous" ;) )?

Talking about me, I'm actually deep involved with "Getter Robot Daikessen!" (AKA "Getter Robot The Big Battle", a cousin of the "Banpresto" "Super Robot Wars" saga); a videogame from the old "PSX" age (1999).

Yes... It is only in japanese. And yes again; I don't understeand japanese!!! :D

For chillout moments and mindless pew-pew: Hurrican, built from source using the same compiler setup I use for Oolite (because I am that much of a geek, yeah :) ). Still haven't managed to get past level 1. Music is great though.

Does computer chess count as a video game?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Of late I've been giving Kerbal Space Program a serious workout.. it's even starting to make appearances in my dreams.

Must admit, I love games that force you to think hard.

Only just, perhaps, but yes. 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Ok here we go :)

On pc:

1. Trainz 12.

Over the last 2 years I built an enormous layout with a large rail network on it. Its partially European and partially Japanese. I'm putting hours in building the cities. You can see my creations here in the Japan topic.

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthre ... an/page111

Some videos of it on my youtube page:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Pagroove/vi ... freload=10

And use the back button so you can see that I started I believe in 2008 with it. Its weird because I am not a train nut at all but through building I became fan of the Japanese rail and especially the Shinkansen system. It is the efficiency and the beauty of it that attracts me. Also it is active since 1964.

2. Flight Simulator

Furthermore I am in a development group for Flightsimulator. Fs2004, FSX to develop a scenery for The Netherlands. Although lately I am not that active anymore. I develop the Rotterdam area (buildings only not the Airport) and there is a LOT of work to do because there where built about 70 new skyscrapers or so that should be in the scenery. Nowadays we are able to build in SketchUp which is a lot easier than Gmax. However getting it into the scenery and making day and night textures for buildings take a lot of time. I should get into the project again or stop with it completely.

3. Other space like games:

Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civ2

4. Other train games:

BVE,
Densha de go Shinkansen. A supercool train game only in Japanese. It is through this game that I was inspired to make a Japanese route in Trainz.

Video:

Stopping in this train and keeping schedule is thougher than it looks.

5. I used to race a lot in Rfactor and GTR2 but lately not so much.

On PS3.

Gran Turismo 6, Little Big Planet 2.

As you can see I like games a lot in general but Oolite is one of the greatest finds in history. I fly with my commander since 2006 and do that quite frequently. Oolite is the game I want to reach the Elite rank one day. Now dangerous and nearly deadly. So yeah the road is long. But I enjoy the journey.

My goodness, that's impressive! I understand that it's a game, but it's closer to a work of art. I have a friend who's into G-Scale modelling, so can understand the attraction of train modelling.

Although not in the same league, I have a game of Transport Tycoon that's been ongoing on a 90's laptop running Win95 since about '95. Although I don't get time to play much of that (or anything - even Oolite) these days because of other RL hobbies - the disadvantage of working in an office rather than FIFO on a minesite with nothing much to do when you finish work.

I do a few virtual jigsaws if they count :)

My sons also play with this game often, but with the free remake named to OpenTTD which is better than the original imho and available under Linux and Mac also. Tons of addons provide a similar labyrinth than OXPs. :)

Thanks. :) Working and landscaping in Trainz 12 sometimes feels a bit like being a digital Bob Ross. 8) . A happy tree here and there.

Firefall, Mass Effect, Cube2:Sauerbraten (The One True FPS), some Osu!, some Starcraft 2, some Zero-K, some Stunt Rally, Brogue or 2048 on lunch time.

I agree OpenTTD is much better, I have a copy, but I'd have to invest a lot of time to get my TT game back to what I have on my old version. I didn't realise it had a lot of addons though. I'll have to go and have a look - it might grab my attention again :)

Open TTD is indeed very expanded now. It has a LOT of add ons. You can tailor the game for you just like Oolite.
