Just to jump onto the 'Did you all miss me' bandwagon - back home with bucket list reduced by one item!
Welcome back to all you listeners, wherever you are throughout the charts. It’s been a little quiet around here I know, but even the Milky Way Kid’s got to order the occasional gargle-blaster and go find an ancient xeno-cultural ruin to sip it under. This is the late shift on Lave’s favourite sub-aether comms station “Jameson2084.004”.
I hear rumour some scientists are trying to determine whether parts of the Ooniverse ought to be getting bigger… or is that smaller? Oh well, I suppose it’s just a relative matter of scale. I expect my cramped studio will be the same size tomorrow. Anyway, a big call out to Prof. Redspear and the other boffins over at Aegidian Tech.
Up in a few moments, another big asteroid classic from Bon Jolly, written for the holovid hit ‘Young Guns’. You remember the final sequence, a space shootout between the last young bandido and the tenacious bounty hunter, a character based on one of the media sensations of the time, the disembodied commander of the Cobra ‘Potage Electrique’.
But first a word from one of our sponsors: Do your for’d or aft shields crash too quickly under withering laser fire from nefarious assailants? You might like to consider a ‘Shield Cycler’ algorithm for your ship defence systems. Talk to your friendly Mac’s Autos elctro-mechanic about the best options for you. Mac’s Autos, EM licence 22518.
Maybe the Young Gun could have used a Shield Cycler. Here’s Bon Jolly and
Shot Down (by Blaze O’ Glory)
I wake up on the bridge and I raise my weary head
I gotta rem-loc for a pillow, the command couch last night's bed
I don't know where I'm going, only Giles knows where I've been
I'm a devil on the run, an Ingram beam lover,
A candle in the solar wind
When you're brought into this world, they say you're born in sin
Well at least they gave me something, I didn't choose maraudering
Now they tell me that I'm wanted, yeah I'm a wanted man
A Mamba through your Aegis, you’d better check my status,
A GalCop fugitive I am
“You’re going down,” commed Blaze o’ Glory
Take me now but know the truth
I'm going down in a blaze of glory
Giles I never scored first but I scored first plasma
I'm no one's son, call me young gun
You ask about my conscience and I offer you my soul
You ask if I'll be a wise man? Well I ask if I'll grow old?
You ask me if I know life, what it’s like out in the space lanes
Well, I've seen them all run and I've seen them shot down,
I've seen them die in vain
Shot down by Blaze o’ Glory
Take me now but know the truth
'Cause I'm going down in a blaze of glory
Giles I never scored first but I scored first plasma
I'm the devil's son, call me young gun
Each night I rest my head and pray Giles my soul to keep
No I ain't looking for forgiveness, but before I'm in space deep
Giles, I got to ask a favor and I'll hope you'll understand
'Cause I've lived life to the fullest, let the boy die like a man
Staring down an Ingram, let me make my final stand
Shot down by Blaze o’ Glory
Take me now but know the truth
I'm going out in a blaze of glory
Giles I never scored first but I scored first plasma
and I'm no one's son, call me young gun
I'm a young gun

I've never been the subject of a song before. At least, not of a song I'd sing myself!
I thought one of my stories had made a breakthrough recently when I found this: Calliope: a classic Elite yarn - shortly before having a Gilbert Ratchet "Oh no! It's THAT kind of 'Classic Elite Yarn'" moment ...

Well at least someone named some wool after you.
Take your fame where you can find it.

It was a bit of serendipity really. The song happened to be on the radio when I was browsing the bb and reading one of your posts. So I looked up Blaze and read the back story on the wiki. I hope you don't mindDisembodied wrote:I've never been the subject of a song before. At least, not of a song I'd sing myself!
