Just tested OOlite in somewhat different configuration:
processor : 0
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 6
model : 8
model name : AMD Sempron(tm) 2600+
stepping : 1
cpu MHz : 1832.677
cache size : 256 KB
[..]
bogomips : 3666.07
Graphics:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] RV635 PRO [Radeon HD 3650 AGP] [1002:9596]
Slackware 14.1, open-source Radeon driver 7.5.0, Mesa 10.3.2, OOlite 1.80.
As you see, the processor is quite weak as for today's standards; but combined with decent (but still not the strongest available) graphics adaptor, it allows playing OOlite; in "combat view" there's around 70% of CPU load. Actually, the real burden are... text screens: like "market prices" (which I reported already), but also the other ones cause more load for CPU than moving graphics views.
Am I correct, that the text screens are being constantly refreshed, like the graphics window? Maybe the good idea would be to change them to "static" mode of operation, I mean: only, when any information to display has been changed (not sure: are e.g. market prices changing their values in real time?) the text screen contents should be refreshed.
Keep up the good work
