Equipment installation timeframes
Is there any chance of making it possible to tell how long a given equipment purchase will take before proceeding with the purchase? This can be critical if say for example a Maintenance Overhaul comes due half-way through a cross-sector contract run. Maybe you can afford to take the time out, maybe you can't. Maybe you'll have time once you make the next deadline 2 systems away.
The trouble is there's no way of knowing how long a transaction will take until you complete it. I got lucky on my last run... I noticed that the equipment I'd just purchased had put me over my contract deadline before I saved my game.
On a somewhat related note I also have a query - is the time taken for a Maintenance Overhaul constant, or does it vary?

Re: Equipment installation timeframes
The time taken to install a piece of equipment is currently 5 minutes plus one second per decicredit.
As the maintenance overhaul varies in price depending on your ship, equipment and service level, it'll also vary in time taken.

There's more than enough room in the f3-screen for time estimates. Maybe that's something to consider for the next version of Oolite?
Re: Equipment installation timeframes
That, and potentially allowing
equipment.plist
entries to specify a hard-coded installation time.- Diziet Sma

In the meantime, is it possible to OXP/Z this?spara wrote:There's more than enough room in the f3-screen for time estimates. Maybe that's something to consider for the next version of Oolite?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.

The shipclock is always ticking!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

That's a very good question!Diziet Sma wrote:In the meantime, is it possible to OXP/Z this?spara wrote:There's more than enough room in the f3-screen for time estimates. Maybe that's something to consider for the next version of Oolite?

Can't see from a script what's on the screen or better yet what's selected, but a simple overlay might do the trick here. At least it would give you some idea how long the operation is going to last. Like this:

That might have to do.. the leading zero could be dropped, as the longest time shown on there is under 3 hours.

Those times are out....
At 5 minutes + 1 second per decicredit:
5 mins = 300 seconds
3000CR = 30000 seconds
30300 seconds = 505 minutes = 8:25:00
